Boxing Biographies - ones worth reading??

ok i have only read a few but i really enjoyed these:

frank maloney - "from peckham to las vegas" - i don't how much bs is in this but i enjoyed all his stories from his days managing lennox lewis and his encounters with don king.

joe calzaghe - pretty biased as he is one of my all time favs

angelo dundee - can't remember the title as i read it so long ago.

anyway just wondering which ones you lot have read and which are good and which are bad.

I have Jack Johnson unforgivable blackness (obviously not written by him). Very thorough on the man himself, his fights and times he lived in. Would certainly recommend it.

The Dundee book I believe is "I Only Train Winners" I have it in another room down the hall, but am too lazy to go get it and double check what the title is. Unforgiveable Blackness is very good too. "A Flame of Pure Fire" about Jack Dempsey is pretty good. "Facing Ali" interviews with some of Ali's opponents isn't bad either.

Ali - His life and time. this book is something special

Johnny owen The big if - Not bad this little short really cos Johnny himself had a fairly routine life in the valleys. real good accounts about lupe pintor coming to wales and stuff though.

Ive got a few others but havn't got round to reading them.

I second the Jack Johnson biography...Very good read...I can't remember the name of the book but it chronicled the buildup and fight between Sullivan and Corbett...Pretty interesting. If you haven't read Cinderella Man it is pretty good as well.

A good boxing book to read and a quick read because it is only about 170 or so pages is "The Prizefighters" by Arlene Schulman and Bud Shulberg does a nice intro....She spend some time with a variety of fighters, Durna, Saddler, Pryor, Archie Moore, Mark Breland to name a few...Gets some stuff out of them that give a good insight on the world of boxing and the private side of the fighters....

She does some stuff with guys you never heard of and hopefulls that are pretty interesting as well.....The first time I read it I liked it so much I went and got an autographed copy

The Devil and Sonny Liston is a good book. I got it for $8.00 at a Seattle used-book store during a trip with my girlfriend.

I really enjoyed Teddy Atlas' book "From the Streets to the Ring" as well.
