Default Greatest All British Boxing Matches

A fight where both fighters are from these islands. So no Joshua/Klitschko, Calzaghe/Kessler, Turpin/Robinson etc. Can be a British Title Fight, a grudge match or even a small hall classic.

    Benn/Eubank

    Lewis/Bruno

    Bugner/Cooper

    Groves/Froch

    ETC

Four days ago was the anniversary of the Hatton -Thaxton fight, and it got me thinking, not one for the purists maybe, but a memorable fight nonetheless.

Andy Holligan losing to Shea Neary in a domestic Liverpool dust up under a huge tent was an all out war.

Kevin Lueshing v Chris Saunders 2 was an epic contest both getting knocked down and hurt.

Benn v Eubank 1 was pure blood and guts!

AJ v Whyte was a top contest.

Does Macklin count as British? Sounds British. Macklin against Moore was good. Benn versus Eubank the best in my time though.

David Haye v Carl Thompson was fun while it lasted.
Haye went all out, nearly Kod him then burnt out and the hard as nails Thompson beat him down.

You lot all think boxing was invented in 1980's at the earliest

Bob Gregson v Tom Cribb, 1808. A proper barnstormer, that was.

This is a tough one. We don't see much all British bouts in the States. I do recall..ok I had to look it up..the first all British card I watched was Herol Graham v Paul Ashton. It was weird because they randomly aired it over here on a Tuesday (?) on HSE to fill time because some monster truck show was cancelled . It was definitely different as we were so used to all boxing being 'all American' around that time and it was interesting to see another view.

Best al British trash talk was when Alex Arthur was trying to get a world title fight or something ong those lines and Michael Gomez tells him"if you want to get beaten up by someone with a foreign name then just fight me again"..

Well I thought it was funny.

Thx now I got a whole net set of fights to check out!!

For me it was Benn-Eubank, but after watching what @Beanz put up Hatton-Thawton, yikes! That's a fight!

So Froch vs Kessler would that fall under best European matchups?
& how would Lewis vs Bruno be classified as?
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!

Lewis v Bruno is whatever way you look at it an all British Affair . After all he was born here, spent the first 12 years of his life here and said himself at the time, and since, that he considered himself to be British.

Best European match ups is intriguing, (you could just as easily have Calzaghe /Kessler in that mix) Thanks for the idea Slim
