    Default Hd Tv

So I finally got one of those Vizio HD TV's and got DirectTV to hook up a HD receiver today.

It looks great, I sat there and watched the food network for like twenty minutes just cause of how good it looked.

But annoyed about a couple of things.

1)I watch like only a certain amount of channels really. I watch ESPN, ESPN2, ComedyCentral, CNN, MSNBC, The Travel Channel, Fox Soccer Channel, Discovery and FX and TNT some maybe. And two of those I don't even get in HD, MSNBC and the Travel Channel which really should be in high def.

Ok fine, I should have looked that up beforehand, not a big deal.

But for anybody that watches ESPN HD what the hell are these bars down the side, its a nice picture but its a fucking narrow channel for how big my TV is. I just find it annoying for some reason. Is there something that can be done about this (it seemed like with sportscenter it wasn't like that), is it always like this?

Not sure where you live but i get all of those channels in HD. The 'bars' on the side of the screen mean that that current program on that channel is not currently in HD. So instead of stretching the picture to full screen and have it look not so great, it shows it like that. Just cause a channel is HD does not mean every program (or commercial for that matter) is in HD.

Ah, ok that makes sense cause yeah its full screen now on sportscenter which I guess is HD whereas like PTI isn't.

I don't think it matters where I live cause I have DirecTV. It must just be that they don't have those two on HD.

HD TV is shite. I stopped watching mine and I'm back watching a 36 inch cathode ray tube box. In a few years hopefully they'll come up with something as good but they haven't yet.

It just doesn't look right. It looks like those old projection TVs used to look from an angle. DVDs probably look better on it but actual TV broadcasts no. And it's not the fact that I bought it a while ago and it's old technology. My brother got one of those new LED tellys and that's shyte too.

wtf? lol Kirkland you have to be P4P one of the most cartoonish guys on this board. What are you talking about? TV broadcasts in HD are exactly the same as DVDs, it's the same thing.

I've lucked into a few TVs over the years and the one I have currently I bought off a friend of mine, the A/V ports are broken but the HDMI plugin works. His dad got rid of the HD boxes because they were to much so all he could use that TV for was video games. I bought it for $120, it was dope. But that's in my living room, in my room I just bought a 32 inch Vizio and I love it. It's even doper.

In my opinion, HD TV are awesome. The only thing is that you have to have Blue Ray/HD DVD or a channel that broadcasts in HD to use fully the potential of your tv otherwise it can look just like another good quality t.v with no extra cool features. Find some good HD channels though and then you will be in total awe.

The picture quality for TV is still rubbish.

Meh I got a 47" in my bedroom and the high def. channels are awesome. Plus we got a 52 and a 60in downstairs that is even better all hooked into digital cable boxes finally. Not enough digital HD yet channels but wayyy freakin better then tube tvs or projection or w/e. Ya sure am burning out the retinas but big deal. HD tvs are awesome!

ya gotta have the right signals and cables for them too, btw. optical links and all that shit. it just takes abit to adjust to the format Ouma, or you can set the ratio differently to fill the screen.

Yeah I know about the HD channels part Nameless. Anyway I think the picture's amazing, I just wish everything was HD, at least every major channel.

It's definitely the new standard. You won't have to wait very long for that. As for myself, once I get my hand over a new place only for me, I am pondering to buy a HD projector and to install a kind of multimedia living room with the biggest projected screen, the only thing, if I do that, is that it has to be in a basement or something as a projector means that lightswould interfere too much with my plan.

I'm still annoyed about the travel channel not being in HD, and I won't be made fun of for liking the travel channel.

HD just costs sooooo much not only to film in but to broadcast in, it's a hell of a lot of work and with the economy the way it is the transition to where every channel has HD will likely be way slow.
