Default Is Mike Tyson showing PD signs?

Bit concerning seeing him in a few interviews slur his words and so slow to react...with the amount of damage he has taken and dished out is it a worrying sign?

Is Punch drunk the correct term or could be early signs of Parkinson's?

I'm pretty sure you can dish out limitless damage

Tyson was an alcoholic and drug addict
Those two things probably affected him more
Than what his career did to be honest.

Mike has always had slightly slurred speech.

He was on Kimmel last night or night before and seemed sharp enough.

Sadly, I think he is back on drugs street or heavy pharmaceutical.

I'm going to edit my above post. He seems like Mike. Good natured and but a beast in his early career, Just like Foreman. Hated early, loved late by fans. Ps, I know a lot hated Mike, Just speaking for the casual fans I think. Not that I was a casual fan. Just saying. I love this sport.

True, and a whiny voice. But had bricks behind the letters for the bullies.

I don't get the recent fascination with CTE
It seems to be a hot topic in contact sports.

Hearns shows signs of it whereas Leonard
Hagler and Duran appear to be just fine.

Toney shows signs of it whereas Hopkins
Jones and Tarver appear to be just fine.

Bowe shows signs of it whereas Lewis
Holyfield and Tyson appear to be just fine.

That's nine fighters who don't have it
And three that might. It's not a huge problem.

It is for the 3 that might have it. Bear in mind , these are the most successful fighters , who perceivably get hit less and it's a possible 25% rate.
What about the less skilled journeymen who get hit for fun?

Sometimes its just a genetic thing. Take a look at someone like Wayne McCullough. In an xray he was chosen to have a thicker skull than most. Not that that has anything to do with it, but sometimes its the luck of a genetic draw. There are people out there that exercise everyday, stick to a vegan lifestyle, don't drink, don't smoke and die early anyway. Then there are people that eat bacon like chewing gum, drink life fish and smoke like chimneys and live to be a hundred. Diet, exercise and a good nights rest can maximize the most of what natural selection has given you.

I'm sure those of us that have nagging injuries can attest. (I have back problems from lifting something at work years ago and feeling a pop in my back, Had a Torn acl left knee, Partially torn, MCL in the right knee, Dislocated left Shoulder, 1 or 2 concussions, Multiple fractures in Fingers both hands, Tendonitis in my right foot, A partially torn Achilles in my left leg). As odd as it sounds from all stuff i've done to my body, i still feel better when i've moving and being active now. Rain sucks though. The body is fairly miraculous when it comes to healing itself if you give it what it needs. Head injuries take so long to heal though and they compound... so every successive concussion you get is twice as easy to get as the one before it and seem to be an area of the body that heals the slowest or not at all (in terms of returning to full function)

Mike didn't take that much damage in his life in the ring (Douglas, Evander, Lewis). As Gamo mentioned. The drugs and alcohol can play a part. Stuff that numbs the brain or deprives of it of oxygen can kill cells if oxygen isn't restored quickly enough. Which many of us never believe because we actually think we're funnier and more of a smart@$$ when we're Sh*tfaced.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Bowe took a load against both Holyfield and Golota
That's five fights in which he absorbed a lot of punishment.

Toney had 90 professional fights and boxed for almost 30 years
As a professional (which doesn't found his amateur career)
He also fought much larger men due to his fake weight.

Hearns had 67 fights and wasn't built for taking damage
Again he had a long amateur career and sparred a lot
He also went on too long so they were all contributing factors.

If those guys didn't box what would they have done?
They were given the opportunity to make millions.

Totally agree, it's their choice , they're all grown men and it gave them a good life. And I don't have all the answers, I'm no doctor.
But to say "I can't see what the fuss is about", just seems a bit flippant.

People NEVER talk about the drug abuse (both legal and illegal), poor diet, lack of sleep (long hours of training and concentration) and oxygen to the brain (due to weight draining) and other physiological factors play a part in the brain damage fighters incur.

To say that all boxers should get brain damage because they box is like saying all persons with brain damage were boxers.

From my cursory glance, the guys who have slurred speech and traumatic brain disease can either be traced back to 1. Hereditary issues, or 2. One or more of the above aforementioned issues.

Drug abuse is a main key factor along with weight draining. Also, to be honest, most of these guys were barely literate before they started to fight. James Toney wasn't a Rhode Scholar and other guys just were street thugs who barely could make a sentence. Sure, some guys took too much punishment- Hearns, Norris (Terry), Benitez and now Shane Mosely, but.... NO ONE TOLD THEM TO STAY IN WAY PAST THEIR PRIMES, DOING THE SAME THINGS, WHILE BEING POUNDED BY GUYS YOUNGER, FASTER AND NATURALLY STRONGER THAN THEY WERE!!

To some extent, you have to be like Oscar and Floyd- both at the top of their games, both got out just when they should have before someone kills them in the ring!

Actually, to be fair, the sport has come a LONG WAY from the brute-carnage that happened during the 70s and 80s. It's amazing some of those men are still standing. Truthfully.

Look at Wladimir Klitschko, he had 140 fights as an amateur
And 69 fights as a professional (a lot at the highest level)
And he still speaks clearly and seems fine at 41.

That's a guy who was knocked out four times
And knocked down over ten times but he lived a clean lifestyle
And didn't abuse his body between fights by gaining lots of weight.

I think fights are stopped way too early nowadays. Tyson didn't really take any punishment except against Buster Douglas and Lennox Lewis. I would not say that Holyfield did any damage to Tyson
