DUVA TO KLITSCHKO: CONGRATULATIONS, NOW LET’S GET IT ON WITH A PETER REMATCH

“I am prepared to offer Wladimir many millions to fight a rematch with Samuel Peter as soon as possible.” Dino Duva.

Promoter Dino Duva says there can be no doubt who the number-one contender in the heavyweight division is now that new IBF king Wladimir Klitschko has destroyed former champion Chris Byrd.

“Duva Boxing congratulates Wladimir Klitschko. He proved himself the real Heavyweight Champion of the World with his commanding performance against Byrd last Saturday,” said Duva. “It also proves that my fighter, Samuel Peter, is right there with him and the legitimate number-one challenger in the world based on his performance against Klitschko.”

While the Ukrainian giant was able to walk through Byrd fairly easily, he found himself on the deck three times against power-punching “Nigerian Nightmare” Peter last September, while using a mix of cautious boxing and strategic holding to win a close decision. “The way Klitschko walked through a formidable champion in Byrd; it proves what a great fighter Samuel is. At just 25 years old, there can be no doubt Samuel is the future in the heavyweight division.”

Duva is hopeful that Klitschko will be a champion who is willing to take on the toughest challengers. “We hope we can convince Wladimir to give Samuel a rematch. Samuel has clearly spring boarded to the front of the division by comparing his success against Klitschko to Byrd’s. Peter vs. Klitschko II would be the biggest heavyweight fight out there right now that could be made.”

Peter, 25-1 (21 KOs), will headline this week’s ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” telecast from the Mohegan Sun Casino when he faces 7-ft tall slugger Julius Long in a battle for the NABF Heavyweight Title.

I gotta disagree...I think that Peter is a worthy prospect.

People are a bit too harsh on the kid. He barely had an amatuer career & he went toe to toe with argueably the best heavy out there.

He can be something with a bit of work.

Yes wacko but the guy dont have skill. The only thing that kept wlad cautious was peters power. Wlad would knock him out this time, peter cant box enough to beat wlad

im sure Sam has been working on mistakes. This is a rematch that he deserves. Id like to see if hes improved his skills and defence. Wlad will come in confident against him so Sam would have to be on his A game. Could be even better that the first fight

I want to see how Peter does against the 7 foot Julius Long on Friday. He should be able to stop Long within 3 or 4 rounds, especially if Tye Fields did it in 3.It will be interesting to see a guy with a 90" reach against a guy with a 77" reach.

As far as fighting Wladimir again I wouldn't put him right back in there with him Wladimir is to smart and will fight an even more disciplined fight this time.

To think that Peter couldn't beat him is silly. In his first big match he floored Wlad several times. With a bit more experience he could easily take a championship and hold it for a good while.

After Peter's last performance against Hawkins, I don't see how anyone could be singing his praises.

He's got power, but right now thats it.

He's still a bit green. Even the greatest of greats fight the occasional bad match.

Klitschko will Ko him 5 to 8 this time, But he has to watch out for the punches behind the head.

Agreed Klitschko will win, but more like he has to watch out for half tying up and then just standing there not moving in our out, or throwing punches.. Wlad was being way too cautious and it was actually to his detriment imo, in the 12th round he found out that he could hurt Peter, this time I think he could do it much much earlier. If their fight had gone on for another couple rounds, it would have been Peter taking a total beating, imo. Wlad knows he can hurt him now, this rematch would be interesting though, it's not like there are better fights out there. I give Peter about the same chance as I do Rahman or Sergie Liakovich, to beat Wlad.

Eh....let's give Peter a little bit of time He's not quite ready yet. He will be though. Onvce he learns how to move his head and move in without coming squared up then I think he has the tools to beat Klitschko. I mean he ate Klit's right hand the whole fight and was never really in danger of going down until round 12. He has a chin and he has a ton of heart, just needs to work on the fundamentals. He's very raw right now, just gotta cook him a little bit

And man, what happened to the bandwagon? I mean you wouldn't think people would have abandoned him like this, I mean he lost a competitive fight against the best heavy in the world and knocked him down 3 times. Why are people all the sudden so down on him?
