    Default Experience vs. Youth

IT was clear in the recent Calzaghe-Lacy fight that lacy had challenged someone with way too much experience and know how. It was sorry to see him beaten so badly but i think challenging a veteran like calzaghe afetr only having fought 20 odd times was a dangerous move.

Do you think its true that fighters nowadays are being brought up too fast?

Maybe, its different in every case. I don't think Lacy was brought up too quick, he probably wouldn't have won that fight if he was 30-0.

i think they need to do it faster
if you got the skillz you should prove it
i agree on lacy even with more fights he would of get a beating
hes just not the fighter people thought he was
but a lot of other young cats should move faster i think
if your really great your really great if not your not and probably will never be

Joe was just the better skilled fighter and Lacy had no defense whatsoever

thats what i mean, he was brought up so fast that no one had really tested his chin and the only certainty was his punching power. Its better to know where a fighter stands in all aspects before fighting with so much at stake, as Lacy did here.

Depends on the fighter. Mayweather had about the same amount of fights as Lacy when he challenged Genaro Hernandez. Hernandez's experience was a non-factor.

but surely although a boxer has great talent, he must gain experience before stepping up to the table with others who also have great talent but experience to go with it.

There are exceptions of course such as the young Tyson who was in a league of his own after his first few fights.
