Yes McCline won but it's the same old story with him: brute strength and size and a bit of speed but poor punching technique and questionable stamina. With his strength he could be another Primo Carnera type, knocking guys out with arm punches on the inside. Instead he ties up or allows his opponents to tie him up in there and then relies on his jab to win rounds. It's boring and not especially reliable if he's facing a tricky guy like Zuri Lawrence for example.
McCline's a nice guy, a good friend of Chris Byrd's, but he's not getting any better. Maybe if he fought only other older heavyweights with flaws in their style he could still work his way back to the top 10, but a young, skilled heavy (like Alexander Povetkin for example) would pick him apart.
Mccline in one corner. C or D level fighter in the other corner. 8 round fight. No excitement. Cycle starts again in 2 to 3 months.
Mccline could of been good. Hes fuckin huge....can anyone here tell me with size advantage like his that he could of made an impact. But he doesnt know how to, youd think someone of his size would be powerful....but he aint. Youd think someone of his size could use his jab to beat an opponent....but he cant. The guy isnt even on the radar in such a weak division.
I thought that fight might become a contest to see who could get the most air down their lungs with all the huffing and puffing
There's two types of big........
big and skilled
OR
big and clumsy
You decide which bracket he should go into.

Hmm it doesnt help. It means while you should be getting used to the pro system your actually still learning how to box. Mundine is improving with every fight coz he never had an amateur career which is why i see him beating green. Green doesnt look to be improving...he just looks to be staying the same. RJJ sr reckons mundine is heaps better now then he was against kessler so it should be interesting to see how he goes against green.Originally Posted by Starr

The reasons big American heavies do bad is because no one has ever trained one, the biggest we've had that was good is Riddick Bowe. The upright Euro style is the way to go with the taller guys. You don't want your tall fighter fighting short or leaning in, UPPERCUTS are a killer.
Also Grant, McCline, and every other American fighter over 6'5 either start out in some other sport (basketball/football) and don't get the amateur experience.
I think Chazz Witherspoon will hopefully be the exception to the rule
