Default WOW - 1st Sparring Match

Went down the boxing gym to watch m y mate train, and after, at the end he said I fancied having a go at sparring.

I said no and started laughing, the trainer,s aid why not, you will love it.

So I said OK, and he got another of my mates who is alot bigger than me to spar with me.

Take in account my mate thinks its hilarious, and said he will knock me out, which i expected to.

The trainer said to me, "expect him to cokme and try and hit you hard, he said, get out of the way, any opening just throw a straight jab and move. He said take a stap back if need be, and feel yourself out.

So the bell rings, he said we can go 3 2 min rounds.

Straight away my mate comes (non boxer by the way) and goes for then haymaker.

Straight away i can see a openbing so I just throw a normal straight punch and his head jerks back, then I move.

He throws more punches and I just put my gloves in the way, and they dont get to me.

I think i threw 3 punches the whole round.

Trainer says "your mate is going to get tired now and will drop his hands, start to throw a few punches but as soon as you do, move to the side, keep just a straight punch, and if you see him getting more tired throw some calculated hooks?!

I though Ok...by this time with adrenaline and constantly moving I couldnt belive how knackering it was, I knew you got tired but jeez, anyway, my mate couldnt throw any longer, So I rained punches on him, and just kept, moving, kind of like doing circles in the ring.

2nd round over, and the trainer says, "dont change anything, but I want you to see at least 2 openings and throw a big punch....but only if you see a good opening otherwise keep throwing, the straight jabs.

Last round and I threw 2 big punches, not really hurting him, but taking the fight out of him somewhat.

At the end we hugged ya know but he wasnt very pleased.

the trainer said a few sound things....

"You have some good basics, your hella quick, but you lack power." If you was to fight now you would fight at Welter, but your body is no where near capable, so you would have to have at least 8 months hard training, and by that time move up a weight"

I said no Im not looking into boxing.

He said "maybe you should, you looked good, nobody is gonna hit you, your too quick, you just really need to work on your punching...but that will come...if you hve a good defense thats half the battle won."

I said maybe I would think about it.

Even though I knew I wouldnt

I cannot belive how boxing is so much different to fighting, I thought I understood the boxing game, and to some extent by watching I did.

But when you get in there its a totally different ball game.

Also a mate of mine has gone onto tablet based steroids, and the difference in him in 3 weeks is unbelievable, he is ripped to fuck, is this good or bad?!

    Why?

I know the ins and outs, just because Ive never boxed means nothing.

How many out of the 60000 people who watch manchester united every week have played football?

I know what the games about, and watching it you can learn a hell of a lot, actually fighting is totally different, but you can still love the sport.

Watching is a great way to learn, I admit doing it is better, but even if you dont do it, its very easy to feel passionate about it, because you love it....
