They can but its very hard work and the horses do everything standing up. The horses dont suffer as much if they shoot them i guess.

I guess there are no wheel chairs for horses. How sad.

did you see what happened to the horse Barbaro at the Preakness. His poor leg bent horribly. I hope they can save him.

Oh Barbaro only fractured his leg...sad to see him pull up lame though. He'll be back, I think they really try to save them now instead of shipping them to the dog food/glue factory

Dang...didn't seem THAT bad but oh well. I know a former Derby winner got put down a couple years ago after getting injured in a race

he broke below and above his right ankle i think.

    Always wondered this myself.

I had a near death experience with a horse that has changed me forever. Couple of months back I went horseback riding. Everything was going fine until the horse started bouncing out of control. I tried with all my might to hang on, but was thrown off. Just when things could not possibly get worse, my foot gets caught in the stirrup. When this happened, I fell head first to the ground. My head continued to bounce harder as the horse did not stop or even slow down. Just as I was giving up hope and losing consciousness, the Asda manager came over and unplugged it. Thank god.

    Worst 20p I ever spent

they can hoist the horse in a sling while it heals but as you can imagine it's difficult, so for sheer easiness it's cheaper to shoot them then spend time and money on something that won't earn anymore.

........... because they are harder to hit when they are running around.
