He has that I do not what, that pretty much means he could sell ice to the Eskimo's, if he wanted.

    Why?

Arum, yes he has had an amazing career in boxing, and outside the sport; but de la Hoya has just started out. I think King is an equal of a Buffalo Bill or Tex Rickard; there maybe an argument to put Arum in the mix, but I cannot see any reason for de la Hoya being there... yet

Why de la Hoya? Because he has done much more for boxing as a whole in the last 2 years than Don King. IMO
Golden Boy productions and The Contender do much more for bringing in new fans than Don King

This contenders stuff is not proper TV boxing is it? If it is the future, I want no part of it.

Yes de la Hoya has made an impressive start to his promotors career, but come back to me in 30 years when de la Hoya has proven himself amongst the elite for that amount time. When he has put together a 'Rumble in the Jungle' and a 'Thrilla in Manila'. Or put a card together, that sells out the 135,000 capcity Azetca stadium. Or kept the sport in America going (in the early 90s), whilst Tyson was away, beginning the Latino revolution by making Chavez a mainstream world star, despite JC Superstar not knowing English fluently...

Oscar is getting pretty good at "selling ice to Eskimos himself" For instance, he talked Millie into going abstinant for five months and now letting him meditate for a few more off the coast of Puerto Rico; He got Mayorga and Don King to accept less than half the money in their last fight, He got his trainer to kick Margarito out of camp for punching to hard; He got boxrec to place all of his fighters in the top-ten and even over fighters they lost to; He has Hopkins, Mosely, and Barrera promoting him to the Latin and Afroamerican crouds; He has the white population adoring him even though he does not seem to promote or hire any white people; He tells the judge that he could not remember that girl because he had 500 girls in the last month and then gets off scott free; He partly got away with stealing the contender idea from Leonard and Stalone before it ever aired; Has everyone thinking he is a saint yet uses the Lord's name in vain on public T.V.; becomes quick friends with Dr. Phil; Sells his own books, paintings and songs; gets interviewed and invited on talk shows about 10 times more than any other boxing figure.

However he is still an angel compared to Don King.

Don King has robbed so many boxers for money over the decades and will probably rob many more before it's all over. But even after he swindles you you will still make more money than anybody else can get you. Oscar will become the number one promoter in due time, never liked him much in the ring but I think he will be a good promoter.

Here are both promoters in action and Oscar definately seems the better promoter to me.

Don does seem to condone Mayorga's disgusting antics as well.
