    Default Gum Shield

I'm getting one made. do you think I should go for just the tops or tops and bottoms? If I lose a tooth I'll never box again because my mom will shoot me!

it's rally hard to keep your mouth closed if you use double mouthguards, however they do offer better protection. if you get an uppercut up your chin it can be very painful for your lower teeth.

thanks. but does a single (upper) make your bottoms much more susceptible to being knocked out?

Gumshields are very important to use, even when not sparring , they help you to learn how to breathe out of your nose. This is important because if you don't know how to, you may open our mouth during sparring due to being breathless, this is a dangerous position to be in because a punch to your chin at this time could cause you to get knocked out. So next time you are training on the heavy bag or shadow boxing, keep the gumshield in, and bite on it at all times, try not to get into the habit of not biting it.

some guys use them for sparring but I wouldn't want to fight a real fight with one.

no the bottom is not necessary when you clench your teeth together the top one will provide enough protection for the bottom i wouldnt recommend the top and bottom coz it makes it harder to breath and harder to clench your teeth

    then... oops!

The best quote I got was for $150. I talked to the guys at my gym and they said no way. With their feedback I went with an everlast brain pad pro. I like the free $12,000 insurace policy it comes with.

Your mouth doesn't have to be open for you to breath through one of those things.

Maybe I'll cut the center piece out and then just let it crack open when I sneak a breath.
