Hi SB. If you've damaged one of the ligaments which holds the shoulder joints in place ( e.g. glenohumeral, acromioclavicular) you're going to be out for at least 8 weeks. Your rotator cuff is made of muscles which rotate the shoulder blade and stabilise your arm. If you've damaged one of these muscles (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularus) or their tendons you need to stretch and strengthen them to prevent the injury recurring.

I've been bothered with rotator cuff injuries in the past and if you don't deal with them properly and slowly they can come back to haunt you. Give it plenty of time.

Just take care of it follow YOUR doctors orders DO NOT and I mean DO NOT START USING IT BECAUSE IT FEELS GOOD ONE DAY BEFORE YOUR DOCTOR GIVES YOU THE OK......It is an injury that can become lifelong and nagging....Not one of those serious paralizing things but one that can give you some sorry mornings

A little bit of advice, dont take to much advice of your doctor. They havent got much of a clue about muscular problems. See a good Osteopath.

Don't see a chiro about a shoulder problem. They relate the cause of all injuries to spinal dysfunction and milk it to f%^. You'll be back and forth to their clinic for months.

The treatment for non-acute shoulder injuries is exercise based. So therapists like osteopaths or sports physios who can give you specific exercises to take home are not only helping your injury but saving you money.

Spinal alignment can be a key factor so ask if they do manipulative therapy- all osteopaths but not all sport therapists do.
