Bullshit....Mos Def Arrested Outside The VMAs

Mos Def was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Thursday night (August 31) after giving an unauthorized performance in front of New York City's Radio City Music Hall during the MTV Video Music Awards.

According to reports, Mos (born Dante Smith) pulled up outside the aforementioned venue in a flat-bed truck around 10 pm and gave an impromptu show to the audience gathered there.

The Brooklyn bred rapper reportedly performed his song "Katrina Clap," which attacks President George W. Bush's administration's slow response to Hurricane Katrina, before NYPD officers told him and his entourage to pull the plug and began making arrests.

Mos was released from police custody in the early hours of Friday morning (September1).

Carleen Donovan, Mos's publicist, called the arrest of her client "unjust".

"Mos Def was not out to break any laws. His only goal was to heighten the awareness of a serious situation that still exists in our country," Donovan explained via a statement. "He does not want people to forget that although its one year later, the people and cities hit by the hurricane still need the help of the American people."

Why is U2 allowed to ride through downtown manhattan and over the Brooklyn bridge on a flatbed truck performing on the back while Blumberg CONGRATULATES them, yet Mos Def PARKS and performs OUTSIDE, far less distraction, yet he gets arrested? Hmmmm....

And I don't even want to get into the whole Katrina Clap thing, I would be just as mad if Mos was a Bush supporter and was praising his handling of the Katrina situation. Just the hypocracy of the whole thing is what gets me.

But they were on a MOVING vehicle. That's a distraction to drivers, they had a whole crowd running on the sidewalk beside their truck. That was the only song Mos did, and he says that they never talked to him or his people to tell him to stop. Limp Bizkit did improptu shows all the time at the height of their popularity....no arrest. I don't know, but I think that if Justin Timberlake or Beyonce was doin a free performance, nothing would happen.

Last I checked, you don't need a permit to have music blasting out of your car, you do to set up audio equipment and play any music at that type of volume in a public area.

Noise disturbance is the issue here... not distracting drivers.

I know why he was arrested. Just don't think it was just seeing as how this has been let slide before. Plus it was the MTV awards. I mean, yeah no permits, but P Diddy didn't have permits for his big ass concert truck either. Oh well, in the end it's more attention for Mos and his agenda but doesn't mean it's right. But honest to god, I really don't think that had it been someone else singin a different song, that we would even be hearing about this. Oh well.

No he isn't. Immortal Technique is and Mos just did a song with him, Mos was barely featured. He has been critical of the Reagan Doctrine but that's about it...
