can someone explain to me how Leon Spinks with a record of 6-0-1 (5 KO's) gets a shot at a world title, and against Muhammad Ali at that, and then supposedly actually wins?

For being so damn ugly?? I think he was a gold medalist... Only reason I can think of.
A great ameture career used to put you on a really fast track back in the old days. If you go back even further, it wasn't uncommon for a great ameture to fight for the world title on their very first fight. Floyd Patterson defended his title against Pete Rademacher(1956 gold medalist), in Rademacher very first fight.
Ali had cleaned up the dicision afetr 20 years domination - he needed some pocket money and Leon was the latest Bum of the Month.
backfired a bit,....... but then Ali made history by coming back and winning the title for a third time.
Hmmn - if I wanted to make that sort of history, I would ensure I lost to someone I knew I could beat in the rematch.
Too cynical?
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
ALI WAS THE GREATEST. a prime ali would have made leon look so so so ordinary. wouldnt he.
The Spinks family has been the butt of everybody's jokes for decades.
he would though. wouldnt he. leon spinks was just your average boxer who won a title. if he had fought a prime ali, he wouldnt have not touched him.
