Default Perhaps the best fighters who aren't recognized...

It seems like alot of the really good fighetrs of the last 20 years have been either stated to having inferior opposition. Well I want people to make a list of who they think has been a ATG over the last 20 years who hasn't gotten recognition. There a few who have gotten the recognition and have deserved it (Holyfield, Mosley, ODLH, Cesar Chavez, Barrera, Morrales)

    Pernell Whitaker
    Winky Wright
    Larry Holmes(IMO)
    Mayweather Jr.
    Roy Jones Jr.
    Lennox Lewis
Joe Calzaghe (sort of, but not ATG material IMO)
    Kostya Tszyu

    Hey Taeth,

Interesting post idea, shame nobody has taken it up but I'll respond and hopefully get a debate going.

Of the fighters you mention I wouldn't say any are really underrated.

Yes Floyd has his doubters but he's undisputed p4p number 1 in the world.

Winky is not a big PPV draw but amongst boxing fans he's taken on an almost legendary mystique, I mean when was the last time you heard anyone say he was less than brilliant? All boxing fans seem to be his nut sacks imo.

I think the true under rated fighters are ones who the fans and the media don't talk about, the sort who go almost unnoticed or are seen as being less than they are.

Some examples I can think of are as follows,

Corey Spinks, 3 time world champion, former undisputed welterweight champ, two weight world champion but nobody ever mentions how good he is. When he is mentioned it's usually to poke fun at his ring entrances, crying or lack of punch power. I know, I'm guilty as hell of it!

Sergio Mora, the Contender champion is hated by most and seen as a nobody by a large proportion yet he's got a good record and is progressing nicely in his career so far.

Jermain Taylor, still seen as unproven by most, although his fights with Winky and Hopkins were all so close as to porve he is the equal of these men, two great fighters as well.

Joel Casamayor. Not much recognition until his rubber match win over Coralles but you could argue that he never actually lost a fight. Great fighter.

Humberto Soto, not much recognition but one of the very best in the super featherweight division. Could well take over the division once Barrera and Morales are gone.

Hahahaha! Cory Spinks? The fraud? You've got to be fukin joking! He's lucky he has any credit what so ever, let alone a title and lots of money. The guy has been absolutely given every fight I've seen him have. He deserves NO credit, and is a stain on the sport. As for Mora, he's a punk, with no punching power who thinks he's hot shit and kisses SRL's ass every chance he gets. Soto and Casamayor are legit though.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

Bilbo your list is a legit one except if you mention Mora as a real fighter one more time I swear I'll SC you for posting under the influence of perscription drugs................

I got a few more that could go on the list...

Chris Byrd---Boring but other than the few fights he was just too out gunned in he is DAMN!!! hard to get the W on..

Virgil Hill--Been around forever...good record...only lost to prime guys...has some big names on his resume....Has had one title or another on his waist for the last 10 yrs with only short gaps between reigns...Most LHW title defenses....Plus at 42 still has a title

Hidden Content IN CASE THEY ALL FORGOT WHAT REAL HEAVYWEIGHT POWER WAS!!!

Most of those fighters stopped fighting in the 70's some even 60's, I was gonna list Basilio then realised the thread said in the last 20 yrs.
Just thought I'd point that out.

lol feel free to sc away. I'm proud to stand tall (well as tall as a hobbit can stand) and say I'm a Sergio Mora fan.

I like the guy, enjoy watching him fight and I reckon he's a genuine top 10 guy at 160 lb.

Even though I'm completely alone in this view I will not be ashamed.

Mora will fight for a world title within a couple years.

Yeah but no one says "Man Henry could ____" or "Henry would beat ____"

He's like Monzon, he sort of just sits there and no one elaborates as to WHY he's an all-time great, same with Willie Pep
