    Default hammer & focus curls

are they bad for boxing? i've been told regular aren't good for boxer's muscles, so are these bad too? i'm doing them in tomorrows workout, so a quick response would be apreciated.

also, i heard jogging is overrated for training. is running on an inclined treadmill going to help me at all, or is it just wasting time?

don't see why any road work is bad for you...

curls aren't necessary for boxers, IMO. I've never seen a guy do them in our gym.

Isolation movements like curls are bad for a boxer.
It can slow you down. Ive noticed a bit of a difference in my punching speed when i stopped doing curls
Do pullups. They work your biceps and your whole back, great exercise.

scrap, you've got your work cut out for you trying to convince the masses.

    I don't run period!

Although, band sprints are good for wind.

i get the feeling i'm doing a boxer's workout totally wrong. we're doing differant muscles differant days, and we usually do two muscles a day. first we did back and biceps (i did hammer curls, but not focus curls), then we did chest and triceps. we work on them one at a time, back then biceps, chest then triceps, is working on them one at a time bad?

also...i get winded easily. when i'm using my punching bag and get really into it, even if i take a one minute break after three minutes, the second time i do it my left jabs are barely at half of what i start at. is there any workout to help here? i've heard of intervals, like 2 reps of 800 meters, 3 reps of 600 meters, 4 reps of 200 meters or something, not possitive, but my friend says i should start on the treadmill first to get my legs in shape, then start doing the intervals.

You shouldnt be working your triceps and biceps, like already said isolation is baaaad for a boxer.
    Full body movement are key.
For example the bench press and dips. Works both your triceps and your chest. Do those.
Then for back do bent over rows, and pullups. Works your back and bicep.
In boxing, your whole body is working as one, so you need to work it like that on the weights.
Are you dong any lower body work aswell? or just back and chest?

The 4 main key exercises you should ever do are the Bench press, Military press, Deadlift and Squat.
This will work your WHOLE body.

we did lower back when we did upper back too, but we only used one machine for lower while we used three for upper. we did legs today, we did four sets on four seperate machines.

i'm taking down notes since i can't afford a trainer around here, so put down as much information as you can. it's really apreciated.

    You said that dreaded word....Machine!
Do not use machines, of any sort.
Are we guided by metal poles in real life? No, so they are not beneficial at all.
Free weights have a much greater advantage over machines. They develop so much more muscle, including your stabilisers.
For the exercises i mentioned lok up google video. But for things like the squat and deadlift it is IMPERATIVE to get good technique because of how much the back is in danger.

If you tell me how many days you can do weights, tell me your aims, tell me your goals, tell me your current training process. Then i will right you up a weights routine.
Nutrition and sticking to the routine and learning how to do the exercises is up to you though.

Jamio, Dont tell them that Machines are no good, or Ive been waisting my time over the last 8 years devoping a new range. Most machines are a waste of time but there are one or two that are benificial, never say never. It reminds me of listening every tuesday to the post graduates at the uni it sometimes makes me cringe

Depends what machines you mean. I cringe when i see somebody squatting in the smith machine, or when i see somebody walk past the bench press to the pectoral fly machine.
A cable pull is beneficial and others of that sort but if i see another mum squeezing her legs together for one more rep im gonna scream.
