i love to throw a cross...
simply because its the right hand.. its powerfull.. if your right handed its easyer to snap the punch out and i come up with the punch push up from the leg turn with the waist lean in with the shoulder..
its just a great punch for technique..
so yeh i try to do it all with the strait right.. lol inc lean with the shoulder.
    Peace

The secret of a good right hand is the mechanics of the left shoulder

Simple reallythe right shoulder cant move unless the left one does. theright cross is generated of the back foot plus the left stabalises the right shoulder and gives it direction while stabalising the weight on the back foot to generate the power plus giving head the stability it reqiures through the correct posture. Stopping you leaning into whatevers coming in your direction, and it wont hurt as much if it lands. Also your eyes see everthing so you have a better chance of not getting hit which is what its all about, got it

So the faster the left shoulder goes back the faster the right goes forward and the following hook will improve because of the body mechanics

I promised you a cc and I kept my word.

So are you saying DON'T lean with your upper body at all? That's fine in theory but in practise it seems everyone leans forward to some extent.

Great fighters dont they stay on the back to a man. people say fighters are front foot fighters bacause they go forward which is bollocks its the back foot which takes you forward its the front foot that takes you back there are variations to the theme. But every movement should start from good balance if it doesnt its wrong and theres no progression.

The reason people lean is because they are reaching with their shots and trying to make them longer, cant happen you cant make your shot any longer from your chin so that moves forward to your not in balance of your back foot of balance theres trouble ahead then theres that waiting moment, Oh Fuck

scrap, I think you're being too strict. The same can be said about the jab. You can throw it with just the shoulder rotation. You can throw it and lean/twist from the waist. I've just gained 7-8" on my reach. That is without any hip/leg being involved. Both are correct but depending on the opponent e.g if they're in your face you shorten your punches or step back to give yourself room.

I think leaning a little bit is natural, but the rotation is key. Leaning too much puts you off balance. One trainer at my gym insists on keeping your weight back, kind of like a hitter in baseball (but not quite to that extent.) I do find that I'm more comfortable doing med ball slams when I take shorter strides, keep my stance narrower, and keep myself from leaning.
