    Default Double Jab

I only recently noticed that when I do a double jab I dont bring my arm back for the second jab, I kinda just do a double tap where the second punch has no power.
I saw a vid of Oscar de la hoya vs chavez and i saw he has an awsome jab and can do the double with so much speed.

thats what im talking about, mine feels really slow. Anyone have any tips to overcome the double jab?

plyometrics and strength training will help with power, and beyond that, keep on jabbing. you don't have to bring it all the way back. I bring it back about half way. remember, the jab is more of a set-up punch. so the second one not having all that much power isn't the worst thing in the world as long as you follow with the right.

do this. on a heavy bag, jab in a circle. don't worry about anything but circling the bag (to your left if you jab with your left). and jab fast. if done right, the bag should be held in place by the fact that you're circling it and jabbing it.

in the amatuers the power of the second jab is not all that important as it is only rele a good scoring shot ur not gonna knock anyone out with it and as u say tyson and de la hoya can do it well but they are/were world champions and therefore trained at that level so dont worry bout it

    wow, fast reply!
I will definetely try that out on the bag
as for plyometrics, how would I apply that to jabbing?

hitmanhatton - your probably right, but I want the power, speed and edge over my opponent

clap pushups, medicine ball chest passes, etc.

evander holyfield used one of these things to improve his jab.

What you want as a simple short routine is one of those elastic things..
Its pretty much a wider laccy band..Not all that thick..But you put it from behind your back handing each end in your hands with it wraped round your clenched fist and shoot strait shots..
It makes it harder to throw and because of the elasticity it brings your hands right back..
Do it often enough as a routine and it'll help your speed of your punches and keep you into the routine of bringing your hands right back to your chin..
Sometimes speed is power to.. But jab is more about technique
Its all practice..keep your arms loose as you shoot a jab out fast and tense your arm and snap for the last few inches before you land the jab... lol
    Hope this helps

I was always taught to do a 'short' jab for this first one and then a long jab.

The first jab will push the target back so you need the longer shot.
Other way round and the second jab isn't gonna connect as hard or at all.

Used to have the same problem with one twos... have to get that off really quickly on the heavy bag... the first jab will move the bag so I've got to get in there with the cross quickly or I miss the bag and lock my elbow...

If you throw two jabs going forward the feet move twice and if it doesnt rain tonight it will go dark before the morning unless you live at the North pole fact my uncle Albert told me that , I like my uncle Albert
