What was the fascination with this guy amongst Brits. Why was he such a big hero to you guys?

I like Frank....he had a horse face and looked a lot like Shannon Sharpe the tightend for the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens.

But the way he fought was pretty good...would have been nice had he fought Holyfield though

Frank was one of those rare breed of sportsman whose personality was so warm and so likeable that literally EVERYONE loved him.

I've never known another sportsman like him in my lifetime.

I mean Benn was popular because he could really punch and was exciting to watch, Calzaghe is popular because of his speed and skills, Tyson was popular becuase he was a monster for a few years at least but Bruno was popular because he was Frank.

You cared about him as a man before you cared about him as a fighter.

He was also of course, the kind of sportsman that us Brits most like, a gallant loser

Nothing motivates the British public to love and adore a sportsman more than if he tries and fails!

To this day the only British Ski Jumper I have EVER heard of is Eddie the Eagle Edwards, who even today is a recognisable figure, simply for coming completely and hopelessly last in the winter Olympics about 15 years ago

The press attention he got back then was insane, he was literally an overnight celebrity, on the pages of all the newspapers, on the news, in magazines, the man became a legend.

Why? Because we LOVE Losers :P

Gotta love Frank, I heard he was a statue that someone brought to life with wizardry and magic mushrooms. Big puncher tho, very strong, and er thats about it.

Frank was actually a really good techical fighter with massive power - his problem was his defence and his inability to cover up under attack and buy recovery time.

Cost him when way ahead against Bonecrusher, way ahead against Witherspoon, ahead against Lewis.
The fights against Tyson (especially the second) were a sham - he was a scared man!!

he like barry mcguigan was popular to people who usually never followed boxing. but when mcguigan boxed and his dad sang before each bout that was amazing and the crowd got excited. i prefer mcguigan over bruno as barry's fights were exciting and he was very personable.

I think Bruno Holyfield would have been a great fight....One that I would have said was even money.....Frank was a good fighter who seemed to have trouble with those guys of big power....He was ok until he got to much of it....EG Tyson overwhelmed him with constant power...Lewis right was too much.....He was doing damn good against Lennox until then.....Him and Evander would have put on a great match

Big-H is spot on when he says his defence was his big let down.
I remember clearly when Jumbo Cummings clipped him and his hands just shot down to his waistline and he was out on his feet,tottering around like an infant in a playpen.
Same with Bonecrusher
Frank was also one who would admire his own work rather than follow it up but at the end of the day he simply conducted himself in a way that demanded respect from everyone.
Put simply....A Nice Chap
