Hey trainer Monkey...You no another term for that defnse in boxing is the "Crazy Monkey" defense. Seriously!!!
N scrap, the reason you haven't heard of it is because we rarely RARELY see it used here in Europe.
Although, iv seen Hatton adopt a few elements of this defense since the Maussa fight.

Huh,never heard that one before, must be a Europe thingOriginally Posted by hitmandonny
I find it to be a good base defense,to keep from over blocking
Ironically if your doing it right, you can turn the blocks aggresive very easily, nothing dirty per se,just very hard,to make the other guys forearms ache
It would be better to call it the 'retarded monkey stance.' Having your hands up on your head all the time does not account for a good defense, it's impartial and limits you in regards to feinting, and punching.Originally Posted by hitmandonny
In regards Hatton it's ironic that the creator of the 'crazy monkey' advocated clinching to neutralize the skills of a better opponent.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
Having your heads up on your head?
Agreed on not tightening your hands to your head though,I hate that stance
I fixed that part a second before your post.

But yeah when Talley first came here somebody had taught him to do that crud, that was one of the first things to go
My defense is badly in need of work at the moment...iv really neglected it because my footwork is pretty fast and im an aggresive fighter so i rarely find myself caught in a situation wher im outgunned.
But i feel a hands up blocking style would destroy me as a boxer as it would be too great of a distance from striking hand position to defensive position, causing me both to get caught and also to slow down my attacking progress.

It gets taught here in the states because in the amateurs and semi-pro's there isnt alot of body shotsOriginally Posted by hitmandonny
Still hate it
Your blinding yourself, and your block shots too close to yourself, when you could be keeping stuff away
Ye similar to here so...Semi-pro's? How competitive is that? what rules?

The states have a HUGE semi-pro scene now,Toughman is the most competitive and best regulated, but theres also Rough N Rowdy's etc.Originally Posted by hitmandonny

Ah...se we don't have that over here because we got unlicensed n Underworld boxing

You can allways tell the income level in an area of the states by the amount of semi-pro boxing tourneys there are,and the number of Pro-Wrestling circuits there areOriginally Posted by hitmandonny
Both are booked at the local armory constantly, odd really, this is one of the biggest coal producing states in the country, poor as hell
