He never threw it away. There was a reporter doing a story on the young cassius clay and upon touring his house, he saw the original medal. He could tell this was the original because it was before a replacement ceremony. Ali used to pretend he trained underwater for media coverage when infact he did not. Therefor, without any photo graph proving iotherwise, i'm 100% sure he didn't throw his gold medal in the river but he DID throw something if an eyewitness said they saw him do it. The man was smart.
nah he definatly threw it away... i mean its in every single auto biography .......and all over the internet ....and ali himself said he threw it away....so through process of elimination id say...he threw it away

That you've read. I can find an article that disproves and proves EVERY point in the world on the internet. Ali said a lot of things. There's a guy that saw it and ali would've been smart enough to act like he threw it away so he still got the publicity and acknowledgement of his actions but at the same time maintained a medal that proved his own personal achievements.Originally Posted by Tins06
very true..........i'd rather beleive he threw it away because he couldnt stand the injustice of america at that time....makes for better reading

I can direct you to the book in question here if you're interested.
yeah if you could please mate should be interesting
"It wasn't the night of the jab"
Ok it was written by flip sulke (spelling?) and some other guy. It was titled Muhammad Ali the early years and now that i think about it, i don't think it went up to foreman i think it only went up to the first frazier fight. It's black and white and on the front of it is ali boxing in a pool underwater. Theres a storm here now but i'll try to find the exact title and ordering onformation for you if my comp holds up.
i had the frazier stuff confused with another book this only goes up the the liston fight but it is very VERY in depth for his early years. enjoy.
