Cotto at 140 too
No way a green Cotto wanted any part of Mayweather at 140
Spinks at 154 did anyone seriously want to see that ?? i don't think a win over Margarito would of proved much to be honest Margarito had beaten no real names at that time and Mayweather would have totally outclassed him like he did to Corrales Casamayor hadn't beaten no one really at that point only losing a close decision to Freitas and when Casamayor was starting to make big name for himself Mayweather had already moved up he could of maybe fought Paul Spadafora but he wasn't doing much himself except for getting dropped and getting gift decisions.
That article is BS, the same could be said about any boxer today, who they didn't fight I mean.
What they don't say is how amazing it is that it was over 5 weight classes.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
The article was more middle-of-the-road than I was expecting. But the title is very loaded. Mayweather isn't the only fighter who somehow missed several fighters.
Oops
I really don't believe it is his fault but the fact is that Maywether's reign from 140 on to 154 has met very little resistance. He never beat the champion at 140, 147 was at the time a very weak division. No offense to Carlos Baldomir but he will probably go down in history as one of the worst WW champs. No, his one sided victory over Gotti does not change this. As for Judah, all I can say is, what a waist. 154 was pretty bad as well with not one champion with more than 1 defense. Wright was the man and De la Hoya just picked up the spoils he left.
I don't want to take anything away from Maywether. He is a great fighter and no doubt an all time great. But he really came up at just the right time to not fight anybody of much significance in those three weight division. He still has a chance if he stays at the now red hot WW division and beats some of these champions like Cintron, Cotto, Mosley or Williams. It would have been great if he had come up about 8 or 9 years ago and seen how he would do against prime versions of De la Hoya, Mosley, Quartey and Trinidad.
He's fighting Hatton (even if it is at 147).
It's completely unfair to do this until he retires and has been retired for a few years
He needs to fight: Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Mosley, and Hatton
If he even fights 3 of those guys I'll be happy
....hate to bring it up but perhaps JC jr will be ready to fight Floyd in 2-3 years at 147-154 and he could do what his pops did to Roger and Sr.
That would be a HUGE fight providing JC Jr develops like he's supposed to
Mayweather will probably be retired in 3 years and JCC Jr is nothing like his dad Jr is lanky and tall is not a great inside fighter and certainly won't be able to outbox Mayweather no way he beats Mayweather plus Mayweather is about 5 times better than is dad and uncle.Originally Posted by Lyle

Um actually except for Kostya and Cotto there hasnt been a great deal of talent at 140 recently. The fact Ricky hasnt moved weight much makes it a harder list to write.
Dammit i really wanted to discredit Ricky here!!!
No doubt Ray Oliveira, Michael Stewart, Carlos Vilches and Dennis Pedersen were the best available fighters to face at that time.Originally Posted by eagle

#2 Lots of fighters SAY they will retire but few actually follow through
Floyd never wanted any part of Kostya Tszyu at 140 either...no one fought that guy....no Oscar, not Mosley, not Shane....I figure they would have all beaten him but I also figure that he scared a lot of guys away after what he did to Zab, plus he didn't bring the bank like those other guys
