    Araña 8lbs over, card cancelled!
    By Gabriel F. Cordero
    Former WBA flyweight champion Roberto "La Araña" Vasquez weighed in EIGHT pounds over the 115 limit for his bout against Rafael Tirado scheduled for tonight at the Roberto Duran Gym in Panama. Despite attempts by promoter Rogelio Espiño to save the card, the event was cancelled leaving 16 boxers, some from as far away as Colombia and Venezuela, wondering if they'll get paid. Word is Espiño considering legal action against Vasquez.

    ====================

    I'm sorry, but this sorty of behaviour is entirely unprofessional, and quite frankly absolutely ridiculous by anyone wishing to be seen as some sort of professional and someone hoping to get work in the future. He's around 7% over the prescribed weight for that division, and must have known weeks ago that he wasn't going to make the weight.

    I would hope that governing bodies would take action against the pros, especially those headlining cards and jeopardising other fighters' purses, that fail in such a dramatic matter as this.

    8 pounds is a lot. I wonder what happened. I seen Vazquez fight a couple of times. He's a good fighter.

    8 pounds is just taking the piss, shows total disrespect to the opponent, promoter and the fans.
    I bet the lads on the undercard were really pissed off, he's lucky that they dont appear to have ganged up on him.
    Unprofessional, inexcusable and at the end of the day plain daft !

    He should get a two year ban and told to be professional about his business or get out of it.

    Looks like Vasquez is overdue for moving (at least a division or two) up in weight class.

    If I was Tirado I would really really ridicule him for wieghing in over wieght.........then I would do the same thing. Has that happened before? I don't care if he is gone or not, that was a dick move.

    Vasquez should be made to pay the purse the other fighters would have got.

    A lot of these fighters sacrifice a lot to fight often paying the travel themselves only to be left out of pocket coz some twat could not be bothered to loose the weight or alert people to his struggles.

    He should defo be banned and I hope he gets KTFO in his next fight although I doubt this will happen.

    this just doesn't make any damn sense he should be fined real heavy for wasting everyone time. I don't even understand how he even had the balls to hop his fat ass on the scale weighing that much he knew he was going to be way over. I agree also i hope he gets ktfo in his next fight also.

    Damn good idea mate, the governing body should be putting clauses like that into the contracts of fighters who are fighting for or defending titles. However, it might just end up in quite a few fighters getting mystery injuries in the week leading up to fights....

    I totally agree about the injuries. So it's like a a good idea and a bad idea at the same time.
