Default Hatton rules out Rees title fight

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7189867.stm

Rightly so at the moment, Rees brings nothing to the table but a belt. If hes still the champ a little down the line it might be worth it for Ricky to take him on. Once hes beaten people like Witter and/or Malignalli. Everyone knows Rickys far and away the best at 140 so why not try picking up all the belts. If hes staying at light welter I'd like to see him unify the division then get out as undisputed champion.

HA hA....As I said in another thread I feel Torrs is the way to go. He's a guy thats respected (largely because of his efforts against Cotto.) He's got drawing power and he's got a Title.
Subsequently, he's pretty easy to outbox and Hatton should manage him relatively easily (although I thought Cotto would too!)
It would serve as a massive confidence to the broken hearted Hitman and would aid his menatlity before he takes on Witter and Malignaggi.

Rees may well have been the perfect opponent for Hatton, since everyone seems to be agreed that he needs to collect some belts without going straight in the deep end, also working with Warren that fight could be made in the MEN which would be a perfect homecoming for him, though IMO Rees would be more of a handful than most people think, he doesn't have the power to be a real threat he's busy enough to make it interesting for a while.

I really thought this was fight was going to happen as it appeared that Kotelnik had agreed to take step a side money to let Hatton fight Rees.

Looks like Gavin Rees will now face Kotelnik his mandatory challenger in a high risk low pay fight.

As for Hatton I doubt he will fight a big name first though after Malignaggis recent showing that fight could tempt Ricky.

After a KO defeat most fighters and their camp usually go for a confidence boosting comeback fight and that is the sensible option.

I'm sure Rees would have loved the big paycheque of fighting at the top of a bill against Hatton, I think it's probably best for his chances of a succesful career that he didn't get that fight made.

As for Hatton, there's other easy titles out there for him, Torres of Magic Man would be decent comeback opponents too.

I think Witter is trying his luck, hes using the fact that Hatton has lost as a reason to stir up interest in a fight. I dont blame Hatton for not fighting him,hes just coming off a fight with Mayweather the best boxer on the planet, how on earth could he go from that to fighting that nob

Fact is, Hatton hasn't had a legitimate world title in over a year, and the WBA sure is a legitimate world title, even if it isn't presently in the most illustrious hands.

Well it's my humble opinion that Torrs is the way to go.
A fighter with a good repuatation and a world title would not only be a chance to gain a strap but also a huge confidence booster, assuming that Rick is simply too god for him.
