Default Anthony Mundine:what is this guy thinking?¬?¬

Guess who his next fight is against: a world enthralling trilogy v Sam Soliman!!!?! What the heck?Q H'es beaten him teice, once via stoppage. And how stakced is 168 at the moment? Mundine is ultra talented but his choice of opponents is becoming unacceptable even to a an such as myself. What a lunatic.

I hate to be bagging my fellow Aussie here but WTF is he thinking?
A third fight with Soliman is a total waste of time and not warranted, it's not even a rubber match. Australian boxing is in the doldrums when i see this and the news that Jeff Fenech is making a comeback
We've all gone mad down here!

I can think at least 5 other fighters that aren't busy and more worthy opponents. How about Bika, Lacy, Tsypko, Miranda or Kessler?

I've pretty much given up on him getting in the mix at 168... I do like Mundine as a fighter and he's shown he's serious about boxing by improving a lot in recent years.. But that doesn't mean squat when he won't fight anyone good(not that Soliman is bad).. Shame too, lots of exciting young talented guys he could be fighting.

    Really bad news.
Does he still have trouble getting US fights cos of his comments on September 11?

I don't know what he's up to, Bika would have been a better opponent coming of the contender win! He likes to talk a big game but I think its about time he started to walk it!

I was a bit disappointed too. I've been a big fan of Mundine and understand he needs to progress back after his eye problem but a fight with Soloman offers nothing really. I guess Mundine needs to stay active but there's plenty of other guys he could fight as others have mentioned. Odd.

I lost all respect from him when he got KO by Ottke. He is slowly going up in my estimation.

I have said it here before, and I will say it again:

When you know that an alphabelt is coming your way, and you don't even have to lift a finger to get it... Well, why risk it?

So Mundine will keep fighting bums and also-rans at the very least until he is crowned legit WBA champ. Sure, it is annoying to us fans, sure it is unacceptable and all that, but logic it does make.

There is nothing more prestigious in boxing, then the WBA "regular" title.

Obviously there is. But not every fighter is going to be the p4p best fighter in the world, some have to settle for less.

Consider the options from Mundine's point of view: I have the possibility of taking on this big, prestigious fight with a certain chance of losing. I can do it now, no belts on the line and get the amount x. I can do it in three months, a world title on the line and get the amount y.

Now this is pure speculation of course, but I'd say there is a good chance that the amount y is bigger than the amount x. And even if you say 'screw the money', if I were a boxer, I'd honestly rather retire having held a world title, than retire having not.

    Feel free to disagree.

Since Mundine takes so many joke fights I figured that would be what this thread is about considering the title but even I was surprised by this.

Does he not realise hes in the best weightclass in terms of potential to beat a lot of upcomers and show hes the best? Hes up there near the top and a fight like that is doing absoutly fuck all for him. Fair enough with his eye infection taking a couple of easy fights, but what does this prove? NOTHING! He needs a big name after this fight or else hes going to loose a lot more support.
