Default Jhonny Gonzalez - Moving to Featherweight

Being that Jhonny is moving up in weight to Featherweight I started thinking about the possible fights that lay ahead for him.

    Jorge Linares
    Steven Luevano
    Robert Guerrero

(Sorry people but I refuse to acknowledge John as a fighter, the same way I never acknowledged PongsaShit)

Ok so let's what you think about those possible future opponents?

I like the way Jhonny and Linares match up best. Height is close, the arm reach I would say is also alike both can punch. The only question is seeing how well Jhonnys body handles 126.

I think Guerrero is the most beatable IMO, and I think Jhonnys skilled enough to win that fight.

The Luevano fight would also be VERY interesting fight.

I've read J-Gonz is moving to Junior Featherweight (122 lbs. or Super Bantamweight) in the company of Vazquez, Rafa, Caballero, PonceDeLeon, Molitor... Tho Jhonny has some fights already in this division in the past...

Jhonny has the body frame to move up alright to featherweight... or even all the way up to lightweight...

    Gonzalez to face Pastrana!

Former world bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (37-6, 31 KOs), now campaigning as a junior featherweight, will face off with former jr fly/flyweight world champion Mauricio Pastrana (34-8-2, 22 KOs) on May 16 at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California.

Lesser known and the smaller Diosdado Gabi TKO'ed Pastrana in the 1st round!

Pastrana was already in decline. Gabi is shot as well. Abner Mares just destroyed his ass last time out

I read that the Pastrana fight is warm up fight but that the desired weight is 126. I read it on a spanish newspaper out here in LA.

I guess they are testing out the waters and seeing what best suits Jhonny.

Yep... as what CutMeMick mentioned, Pastrana is just a warm up fight for Jhonny...

Gonzalez's power will surely deteriorate in that division.

He will not last 12 rounds with Guerrero or Linares.

Long road back for Gonzalez.I think at shape and utilizing tools he can give Guerrero hellish moments and problems...but I think that body would most likely catch up to Jhonny .Linares beats Gonzalez inside of 10 I believe......also

If Gonzalez could just hold up, I mean look at his fights with Vazquez and Penalosa. He was controlling Vazquez much more than Marquez ever did. Was controlling Penalosa too. Just can't seem to hold up in the late rounds.

With his body type its probably a good move and his power might carry.

He should do just fine in that division.
