Ok, I'm starting this thread because I didn't see any recent ones about this weekends fights. Anyone else think it's kind of shitty that HBO poached Angulo and Kirkland after they kind of built their rep's fighting on Showtime? Well its time to step up according to HBO, this has got to be the best card of the year as far as matchmaking is concerned, all three should be great fights. Alfredo Angulo Mexican Olympian/touted amatuer is taking a big step up when he fights Gutierrez, who should put his boxing ability to the test. Gutierrez has gone the distance and lost a close sd to Clottey, but looked rather flat in his last outing on ESPN. For having less than 15 fights this is a huge challenge.
Then we have James Kirkland a big punching brawler, who likes to square up and just throw inside, is facing a better boxer IMO in Eromesele Albert. Albert is pretty crafty but he is not unhittable, Yory Boy gave him a decent fight recently, if that tells you anything. Can Kirklands power carry him in this one, is the big question to me.
Lastly, we have the phenom from Cuba Yuriokis Gamboa make a huge step in his 10th fight. He is fighting Darling Jimenez a good amatuer who has had problems in the pros. He just recently whooped Mike Anchondo(overrated) in 3, but that was over a year ago. Gamboa fought like last week, so he's gonna have the better legs IMO. Jimenez isn't a walk through so if Gamboa impresses, the sky's the limit with this kid, he has it all speed, power, and high skill level. All in all 3 great fights you shouldn't miss.
