i just use a $3 single, but i look for ones that feel sturdy.
about brinapads, i have a small jaw so maybe that is a factor. infact, i can almost use a kids mouthguard.

Seems like the thinner it is, the less protection it would offer. But I don't know shit about mouth guards.
Cheers for the input everyone. A poster suggested that I should keep my shock doctor. Unfortunately, it was too bulky and uncomfortable that I couldnt keep my gob shut when I used it. A real recipe for a broken jaw!
I found a website in Japan that does custom gumshields and they look spot on. But, the cheeky bastards charge double if you order from the English side of their website. SO I will get my ex lass to write the online application in japanese for me. Then I can compare my dentists gumshield with another custom one.
So how did you fare out?

I actually have one custom from a dentist for my son, a junior boxer. He just kept messing around with the boil/bite one and spent more time concentrating on keeping it in his mouth. One of our coaches has an extensive history in the area with 'old' pros and amateurs and gave me a local dentist that did custom pieces for $100. It was worth it!! It was very thin, but a completely different material than the boil/bites. You almost can't bite through it if you wanted. Most importantly, the fit is so snug, it take a little pressure to pull if out/off. So, now it is almost as if he doesn't have it in.
My concern was, I always though the thicker the better and I asked the dentists "How could such a small and thin item possibly protect your teeth from direct impact". He told me that the purpose of the mouth guard is to keep the teeth together and inline so that the force of any impact is actually spread across all the teeth as opposed to having it concentrated on one or a few, which can result in tooth damage. It's not so much a "wall" as it is a "brace". It's sort of the same theory as how a bed of nails works. . .
Now, that's what HE told me but here's a link that seems to back it
up. . . HEALTH: Mouth Guard Hits and Myth-es
Again, the point is although thinner, the material from the dentist-made mouthguard is better and more effective. Thicker isn't better, necessarily.

Nice to see you joining saddoboxing, DCA boxing. You are one of the only youtube'ers I pay attention to. For starters, my real name on here is "Youngblood", but I am currently paying off a lost Cotto/Margarito bet by having to wear this silly name . lol
Why I enjoy what you do, is that I am a 14 year old boxer here in Canada, currently working my way through the system. Am currently undefeated and heading into our provincial and national competitions coming along this fall thru the winter. I like to know what I am up against on the other side of the border, and your vids give me a pretty good idea about what is what, and who is who. So I appreciate that.
I live on the border of northern MI, and have fought santioned fights in MI, at both the Kewadin Casino in Sault St marie, plus the Island Resort Casino in Escanaba. Basically looking for fights just about any where close enough to travel within reason...for fights here are hard to find for me, outside of tours which are too few and far between. So is always great to make contacts in the amateur boxing world.
Anyway, glad to see you are here, and again...I appreciate what it is you do. Hopefully you stick around and I can learn a bit more from you, and see if we can at some time end up at some of these tours as time goes on and the cameras roll.
Welcome to saddo's.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad I can help. I've been involved in Amateur Boxing for a relatively short time, but I really enjoy it, especially watching young boxers develope. Have you thought about going to the Ringside Tournament in Missouri? BTW, Good luck at your nationals!

It was too short of notice for me and my club when I learned of it, the cut off date was I think June 28th for apps, and I couldn't get there solo. I wanted to go VERY bad as is the off season here. Next year we are likely going as a club. I almost packed a bag and jumped the border I wanted to go so bad! lol Sourpuss who posts here, is 1/2 way to Kansas City now and competing there as soon as Thursday I believe. Yet another reason I wanted to go, she is my online boxing bud so it woulda been cool to meet up...plus is a caliber of boxing I look for there and the guaranteed fights.
Thanks for the good wishes. Keep up the good work.
