Another great old wives tale is that not going down all the way while squatting is actually better for you. Ask any real athlete and he will tell you that is absolute BS. Your just cheating yourself because it freaking hurts going all the way down. Ass to the grass is the only way to build strong, powerful legs, which is what you need to punch harder.

Not really true, IMO. The Squat can be in variation in that way but the orignal squat is going down Paralel... and a WIDE stance always makes the squat a little better, but that's tough to do going ALL the way down. + you can use bigger weights going parallel (or a few inches below) which willl yield more strength + mass or just more strength depending if you curb your calories or not

If you are a boxer it does, in a sense, make you shorter. Consider this: you are 5'8" and weigh 150 walking around weight. That makes you a welterweight maybe even a jr. welter (depending on many things). You decide to improve to build srength by lifting weights and you put on 15 pounds of muscle, which doesn't come off so easily. Now you are a middle weight maybe a supermiddle and your opponents are guys that walk around at 170, 175 and stand 5'10" or more

They aren't going to be able to take the body punches you would be able to take, nor would they throw as hard.. if you worked out your legs. Bigger, stronger, faster... weights make it happen.

by this summer im going for a 350 bench and a 500 squat and hopefully my DL will be close to 400.... im 200 so i am fighting cruiser b, but i am also 5'8'' but my strength comes in handy every single fight. I wil cover up and keep moving forward til im inside and i can throw my uppercuts/hooks. i do heavy weighted ab work which aids in my body shots. strength doesnt matter as much as people think it does in boxing -- but if you got , and u can use it -- thts just one more adv u got over the other guy. Plus, 40%(or something close to that) comes from YOUR LEGS... squat, use all the variations of the squat and get it up there!

Being stronger then most people, I feel like I can really bully people around more and force them into the corners. Joe Ice.. our body types must be pretty close, because Im 5'8, 205 and our numbers are pretty similar.

but if you take steroids at a young age to build muscle then you stop growing because youre using adult testosterone and this is produced when your an adult obviously.

But lifting weights and boxing gives the illusion of a smaller fighter because of the squareness of the build.
