    Default Started running again yesterday...

For awhile, the area around the perimeter of our land had grass that had growed up too much to run in, so I was out of it for a little while. Since my dad cut it, yesterday I ran 3 laps (which is equal too a little over a mile), and I was able to complete my 1st lap nonstop. The 2nd and 3rd I had to slow to a walk at times.

But today I ran again, and my stamina was even lower than it was yesterday! I wasn't able to do a single lap without having to slow down to walk! But this is not the first time this has happened to me, where I've felt weaker and worse the 2nd time doing a workout I've just started or started back doing, so if this happens to anyone else, don't get discouraged.

I'm not training for a 10K race or anything, I'm just tired of getting all out of breath while hitting the heavybag and lifting weights at the gym. (At the gym, I can start doing a set of dumbell curls, and by the time I get to 10 reps on each arm, my hearts beating fast and I'm gasping for breath, on that 1ST set!

LOL haha i feel you man. I can run for months get my cardio pretty decent, but just party too hard one night and go from maybe lasting a good six rounds to three max. Then the running starts all over again.

Don't run long distance every day.

Perhaps one day of distance, another of skipping/sprinting or bike work.

Vary your workout and ensure that you take in high energy foods when engaging in such endevours.

    Running is a funny one.

I recently started doing 5km (just over 3 miles) a couple of times a week and found that I get better results when I have pasta the night before... I am a pretty slow runner, it takes me around 26-27 minutes to do that. so I'm over 5 minutes a km... I want to to try and get that down to around four and a half minutes a km.

And yeah, I've noticed that when I party things go pear shaped with the running and all other aspects of my boxing - timing, fitness, footwork - you name it. As a result, I'm hardly drinking at all these days. I'm pretty committed to my training, going to the gym four times a week and I figure that having a few beers or a spliff just isn't worth setting me back a week or two with my training.

Do you all mean to say... that ONE night of partying can pretty much reverse the benefits of months of running and cardio excercises?

Oh. I was about to say, I don't see how just one night of hard partying can magically suck all the stamina out of someone...

Yeah, I imagine it'd be pretty much impossible to smoke and still be a regular track runner. Well, at least not be a very sorry one.

if i have one ciggarette, i feel it for at least a week when i run.. there is that "catch" when i take a deep breath..

anyway, clubber, if you haven't ran in a long time, then take a day or two off after you run man.. your body is sore and needs time to recover, it's not used to it..

i'll normally do a quick mile 5.5-6 min, twice a day every other day, and every day i don't do that i'll run about 3-4 miles at a decent pace.. but there is no way i could run 3-4 miles everday.. my body would ache.

While were on the subject, how many do any preperation to run. A very forgotten aspect , run or do anything and fail to prepare at the end you better be prepared to fail .

    Hi Scrap,

I have to admit that I don't actually prepare specifically for running much other than to make sure i have a good 20 to 40 minute walk warm up.

Apart from that i used to do a few static stretches before a run but I've read a few contrasting ideas about whether or not that actually prevents injuries at all.

I'd be really interested to hear about what other preparation you'd recommend though because I'm trying to build my kms up again at the moment and while it feels good my muscles are not liking me very much sometimes.
