    Default Olympic Style Boxing

What is the deal with the point system? I am only 17, but I have seen well over 500 boxing matches, and I know how to judge a fight. Effective Punching is a BIG factor. Why in the amatuers/olympic style boxing is it all pitter patt, white glove hit the other guy crap? It is a much better system in the Golden Glove tournaments. Who thought up this ridiculous way to score Olympic boxing?

i was at some amature fights and they had three judges.  every time a punch connected the judges would push a botton. if three of the five judges pushed the botton it would count as one punch.  Then three punches =one point.  so if blue has hit the guy nine times  and red hit the guy six times the score would be 3-2 for blue. Â

I thinks thats how they do it in the olympics.

No, it is not. This way of scoring makes for terrible fights. Even Emmanuel Steward and experts like him have heavily criticized this way of scoring a fight. IMO ten point must system is the best way to judge a fight.

Its next to impossible for all the judges to hit the button at the exact same time (or whatever the time limit is). It needs to be changed to a 10 point must system.

They won't be changing it any time soon. They love the computer scoring system.

I like the system of Olympic style boxing...for I think it is rewarding contact, and correct contact if scored properly with the whites of the gloves, and not the slaps.

I think it will prepare a person better for a future in boxing then a system that say would reward KD's. A system rewarding power shots is I don't think preparing a person properly. A person may have that power, but still need to learn how to use it effectely. Plus swinging for the fences ain't boxing, that's brawling...and I think the system tries to discourage that.

My problem with it is that all the judges have to hit the button within a certain amount of time. This is very difficult to do when someone is throwing combinations.

Oh I agree the scoring system can be confusing...I think if say there are 5 judges, then 3 of them all have to register a button hit within one second for it to count...so yea, there is lots of room for human error. I don't know much about computer calculated and how that works...but would be interested in hearing more about it.

Also, sometimes it should be the guy landing the cleaner more damaging punches that should win.

I really think the 10 point must system is the only way to score a fight.
