    Default New Ring Magazine Rankings

I just wanted to share a couple thoughts on the new rankings just released.

    1) Manny Pacquiao
    2) Joe Calzaghe
    3) Juan Manuel Marquez
    4) Bernard Hopkins
    5) Israel Vasquez
    6) Antonio Margarito
    7) Kelly Pavlik
    Cristian Mijares
    9) Rafael Marquez
    10) Miguel Cotto

-I still feel that JM Marquez should be #2 and Calzaghe is #3.

-I can't help but feel Hopkins is too high in the rankings.

-Margarito at #6 is quite generous. I don't think he should be ahead of Pavlik.

-Anyone else feel bad for Calderon who just made the rankings a short while ago and is out of there already?

i think calderon deserves a spot more so then mijares.. i like mijares but i think calderons whole style and him bieng undefeated and winning and taking good fights right now is what should have him there.

i do actually sympathise with Bernard being up there.. i think he beat calzaghe and i think actually they think this too.. because okay close enough. the result went in favour of joe.. so they put him up one or two more.. but they think bhop won maybe and want to keep him in the mix becuase he still has the utmost class as a fighter

It's kind of weird seeing Margarito in the top p4p, what excuses are people going to make to not fight him now.

I have no problem with Margo at 6... I mean... Name 7 or 8 people in the world P4P that can beat him. There's your answer.

If you switch Hopkins and Margarito the list looks pretty accurate.

It be nice to see Pavlik that high but #4 looks about right. Could happen though if JMM isn't impressive or loses vs Casamayor and Kelly looks impressive with a KO on Oct. 18th.

I don't like that pound for pound list. Hopkins shouldn't be in there anymore. But what really has me stumped is how Cotto is still in there, yet he's been dropped to 3rd in the welterweight ratings, below Paul Williams. How is he a better pound for pound fighter but not as good a welterweight as Williams.

Divisional rankings is based on recent accomplishments within the division. P4P is based on how a fighter would fare in theoretical fights where everyone is the same weight.

Williams has to be #2 at WW simply because he has a recent victory over the divisions top man.

I don't think joe is ahead of jmm, IMO pac and jmm are 1 and 2. There fights are way too close. A lot closer then any rivalry in the past decade or more. I like Joe but his not above JMM, if they fought p4p JMM will beat him to a UD.

Hopkins IMO is too high, the guys last good win is against tarver

Isreal should be 4th, Pavlik 5th, Rafa 6th. I do not think hopkins, margarito and especially mijares is above them guys. I do not even think mijares should be in top then if calderon is not.

I'll put Margarito at 8th Cotto at 10th and calderon at 7th. No way mijares is in the top 10. Tony with a few more good wins can easily go up to top 5 now though.

Pac is number 1 without a doubt.

    1 pavlik
    2 calzaghe

I suppose box rec put alot of emphasis on unbeaten records hence the top two are unbeaten and I think if Cotto won last week then hed be up there too .
