    Default Leonard-Hagler rematch

If it had come off one year later, what would have happened?

knowing leonard, there would never be another one.

remember what happend after the first leonard - hearns. hearns was calling out leonard for an immediate rematch but leonard was too busy to entertain hearns.

Hagler would get some perceived justice ala Morales/Barrera and Lewis/Holyfield and win on points.

Hagler having felt he deserved the win would have KO'd Leonard mid rounds in the rematch

Tough one but I'd go for Leonard again. Remember he had 3 years of rust and still won.

Or you could say the Leonard was three years fresher and he caught Hagler after two wars with Hearns and Mugabi.

Leonard didn't win the fight. Hagler lost it and let Leonard steal it. I'm not disputing the result, but in a rematch, Hagler would not have done something stupid and come out conventional like he did in the first one. He also wouldn't have literally given away 4 rounds before getting started. He would have wanted destroy him. Too bad the fight was only twelve rounds. If it was for 15, Leonard would have been KO'd in the first fight.

Funny, because if the Hearns fight was 12, Leonard would have lost.

Yes but don't forget they go into these fights with fightplans and Leonard was one of the best at putting these plans into play. If the Hearns fight had been a 12 rounder he may well have fought a different fight. Just a theory though. The second fight with Leonard and Hearns to me was a robbery and that was a 12 rounder that somehow was scored as a draw but this can't be compared because they were both better fighters in the first fight.

hagler fought wars with hearns and mugabi but he had a year off between.

his problem may not have been 'wars' but too much rust.

my guess is that the second fight would have been fabulously entertaining. with surprise tactics by both fighters.

leonard was the smarter of the two - you know he would have come up with something to throw hagler off balance.

and hagler would have come loaded for bear - a chance for revenge. look what he did to vito in their second fight. obelmejias. hamsho. willie monroe, bobby watts.

I think Hagler could make improvments in a rematch where as Leonard could only try and fight the same type of fight.

Hagler gace Leonar to much respect in the early rounds and that is what IMO cost him the fight.

In a rematch Hagler would go at Leonard like a wild animal from the first bell.

Wow, did he make Vito pay for getting that theft of a draw.

What alot of people arent seeing,Hagler's legs were starting to go and Rays were still pretty fresh.
If there had been a rematch he'd have just run him around

Johnny Bos reminds me that Mugabi hit Hagler with a killer uppercut in the fourth or fifth round. Possibly the hardest punch Hagler ever took. And he absorbed it - but that may have been the punch that sapped his will to fight. He had enough left to stop Mugabi, but nothing left for Leonard.
