    Default RDJ's training log

I decided to keep a training log here. We'll see if I keep it up

    Tue Aug 26

Biked about 15 miles in the morning, moderate intensity.

In the evening biked 5 miles to the boxing gym, moderate intensity. Got in the gym half an hour too early, so I skipped and shadowboxed for about half an hour. Short warming up, 15 minutes. I was already warm of course. Did defense drills for about an hour, then three rounds all out on the bag for conditioning. Biked about 6 miles back home at high intensity.

No sparring today because I was very sore from work yesterday, I have a physically demanding job at times.

    Forgot to introduce myself.

The name's Remco, from the Netherlands. I'm 32 years old, started boxing seriously about 3.5 years ago. Before that I had been in the gym for a few months but I wasn't planning on actually boxing. Because of my age I did not feel the urge to compete, but things went very well in the ring lately so I thought why not, let's give it a shot. Had one exhibition, which was a very good experience. Did not "win" but it got me used to the idea I think. My first fight will be somewhere in October by the looks of it. I'm 5'8" to 5'9" and I'll be fighting at light welter.

The training section here is much better than on a "certain" other site btw, it looks like a bodybuilding site sometimes.

Wannabe bodybuilders at best. This forum actually has boxers on it....what a novel concept.

Biked to and from gym, 2 x 5 miles. Today was a gruesome conditioning drill. It lasted about 20 minutes I think, without any breaks. First we did some bag work, I think about 4 or 5 rounds. The drill contained lots of jumping, some bag work, pushups, ab work, everything you can imagine. At one point the trainer said this is the last round, give it all you got, so we all did. When the round was over he said I lied we're not stopping and he went on for about two more rounds. I love shit like that

Two times 5 miles on a bike, as always. I was extremely sore from yesterdays workout, so the plan was to take it easy. Unfortunately my coach had different plans. Did about 20 minutes of jump rope first with the occasional calisthenics in between to warm up. Next did 2 rounds of shadowboxing, followed by 4 rounds on the bag (1st jabs and straights, 2nd hooks, 3rd uppercuts, 4th all of them). Got sent into the ring, where we rotated with 4 guys. Did about 5 rounds, my arms were killing me. Got slapped in the face a few time by my coach for dropping the left hand. I like doing that, it gives me an angle to jab from and it lures my opponent in. I think I'm less predictable when I'm not constantly holding up my left hand. I feel safer behind my left shoulder than I do in full guard, he told my sparring partners to make me pay for it but they were unable to because I'm not stupid I don't do it all the time. Anyway, I did not argue of course, but whenever he's not looking I'm mixing in half guard again After that went back to the bag, they were just finishing up with a drill. Cooled down and biked back home.

Sparring went okay-ish, considering my soreness. At this moment I feel like a train wreck, which is good because it's been a while since I felt really sore. About to go for a run now to loosen up a little.

A 3.9 mile road work session. Loads of sideways and backwards movement, calisthenics half way down the stretch, some shadowboxing and stretching afterwards.
