    Concepcion ready to shine!
    September 18, 2008

Over the last couple of years Bernabe Concepcion has built a rather impressive resume as he has climb-up the world rankings and on Thursday, September 25 at the Sycuan Casino in El Cajon, California the hard-punching Filipino will headline his first card when he takes on Giovanni “Ruso” Caro of Mexico City in the ten round main event.

“Fight Night at Sycuan” is the first professional boxing show presented by Manny Pacquiao Promotions (MPP) in the United States and they are doing it as co-promotion with the highly regarded Sycuan Ringside Promotions based in San Diego.

The world-ranked Concepcion (26-1, 15 KO’s) of Rizal, Philippines has being training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California under the watchful eye of Freddie Roach.

Four–time world champion Manny Pacquiao who manages the young right-hander has a lot of faith in the 20 year old Concepcion who is already ranked number 3 by the WBO and number 5 by the WBC at 122-pounds.

“Bernabe has all the ingredients to make a great champion. He works hard and is focused only on boxing. He is improving all the time and we have very high hopes for him. If everything goes the way we plan it, he will fight for a world title very soon,” said Pacquiao.

Concepcion the current NABF super bantamweight champion is 3-0 this year with victories over Juan Ruiz in February, Torrence Daniels in April and Adam Carrera in July. He has also won 15 consecutive wins with nine knockouts.

Caro who is the current Mexican 122-pound champion figures to give Concepcion a run for his money. Caro has won his last three fights and last May traveled to the hometown of Ricardo Castillo (younger brother of two-time world champion Jose Luis Castillo) and scored a sensational 11 round TKO over the local favorite.

Pacquiao, who is training in Los Angeles under long-time trainer Freddie Roach, will be seated ringside to watch all the action.

Other Pacquiao-backed boxers include junior welterweight Dennis Laurente (29-3, 15 KOs) fighting against Arturo Urena (20-15, 12 KOs) and lightweight Mercito Gesta (13-0-1, 5 KOs) competing against Alain Hernandez (11-6-1, 7 KOs).

In the co-main event former world champion Brian Viloria of Hawaii will take on tough Mexican Javier Lagos. Viloria is schedule to take on Ulises Solis for the IBF Jr Flyweight championship in December.

This is not a big time card but I think it's a decent one... Concepcion is the reigning NABF super bantam champion. He is also the WBO no. 3 and WBC no. 5 ranked super bantam... His opponent Giovanni Caro is Mexico's reigning super bantam champ...

If you consider the NABF champ and Mexico's champ as taxi drivers then I think you're a joker...

Former flyweight champ Brian Viloria is also in this fight card...

    Concepcion KOs Caro!
With the bout on the verge of being stopped due to his left eye being swollen shut, super bantamweight contender Bernabe Concepcion (27-1, 16 KOs) unleashed a desperate and brutal assault on Giovanni Caro (11-5-4) to knock out Caro in round eight on Thursday night at the Sycuan Casino in El Cajon, California. The end came at the 2:35 mark.

Former world champion Brian Viloria (23-2, 13 KOs) won a workmanlike eight round unanimous decision over Javier Lagos (15-13-2). Viloria is now scheduled to take on Ulises Solis for the IBF jr flyweight championship in December.

Junior welterweight Dennis Laurente (30-3, 16 KOs) scored a TKO over Arturo Urena (20-16, 12 KOs) when Urena could not come out for round seven due to a cut under his right eye.

The card was the first ever promoted by Manny Pacquiao Promotions, along with co-promoter, Sycuan Ringside Promotions. Pacman was in the house.
