Default Should Mayorga move to 147

    discuss.

I know it seems he came in weighing a lot last night but I think if he can make 147 thats what he should do.

His fight with Shane in no way diminishes his reputation.

But I've believed for quite some time that 154 is the wrong weight class for him.

If he can get to 147 id like to see him against someone like Berto.

But what does everyone think? should he go to 147?

Yes and no. Yes because it would show a greater dedication to training (word is he smoked all through training camp) and his power would be much more pronounced. No because 147 is a lot thicker competition-wise and even though he'd make more headway being the naturally bigger guy in most cases he'd run up against too many elite level fighters or just guys who are plain better than him. I could see the Mayorga from last night capturing a belt at 154, but not 147.

Mayorga can't make 147. He can barely make 154. End of story.

154 is about right for him. Besides he'll have far more chance of winning another belt at that weight than anywhere else.

I'd love to see him brutalise Vernon Forrest one more time.

Yes he should move to 147.
Not because he will achieve any more at Welter, but because of the money he could potentially earn fighting the likes of Cotto and Cintron.

Ricardo Mayorga at his best was very entertaining but not a great fighter.
This aged, battle scarred version is certainly not going to threaten any title holders, but has enough left to make some nice money for himself and his family.

I think he could if he we more dedicated, but he isn't and thus won't. And if Mayorga fought Forrest a 3rd time he would get sparked. Forrest has matured since then and won't get lured into a firefight like before. Besides, I don't think Mayorga's chin is what it used to be. In that first fight Forrest was teeing off and Mayorga was just eating it up until he pulled the trigger. That fight easily could have gone either way.

To be honest i don't think he can make 147.

Mayorga has had a decent career and made some money but now i think its best if he retired.

this is pretty close to a thread ender.

He's getting older, doesn't live a good lifestyle, was always a good sized 147 to start with, etc. Anything's possible I guess but its not likely.
