    Default Thomas Hauser on Pavlik/Hopkins

Kelly is still my favourite fighter. Hopkins is still a (supremely talented) cocksmoker.

    Hauser still the master.

Pavlik did have bronchitis and was outweighed by 9 pounds on the night.

That was a great read. Knowing the outcome there's like a sense of dread.

I guess the weight and the bronchitis were a factor. But more telling is this...

Pavlik - “You know my style. Nothing’s gonna change.”

Hopkins - “This kid is so fundamental, I got the book on Pavlik. Comes straight forward. Jab. Good right hand. Determined. Lots of heart. Slow. Not a skilled boxer.”

Thomas Hauser really is the best boxing writer around bar none.

He has unparalleled access to the fighters, who obviously trust him implicitly. I mean, he rode to the hospital with Pavlik.

Great story, I was moved when he was telling about how Kelly was crying in the dressing room.

Pavlik is such a likeable guy, I really hope he learns from the loss and comes back better than ever.

I think his illness and the weight were big hurdles, but based on what I saw I think he would still have had his hands full with Hopkins even if fully fit and not at a weight disadvantage.

Great read. I loved all the detail of the locker room conversations.

    Spot on

Never see too much of kelly via mainstream UK tv but getting to see the countdown was a great insight into what a down to earth level headed bloke pavlik is and what an all round ass hopkins is.

Still wanted B-Hop on the night though and couldnt of been happier to of been completely vindicated putting £100 on a hopkins points win.

The bloke is FINALLY earning the much due respect he hasnt had since the taylor fights
    one dangerous horrible bloke

I like Pavlik but the excuses just keep on coming.

We have the big gap in weights on fight night even though both fighters made weight at the weigh in.No one ever mentions other fighters going up in weight after the weigh in, Only Hopkins.

    Now Pavlik had Bronchitis.

I expect more excuses to come like Pavlik's gloves weighed 50oz so he struggled to throw punches.

What was really wrong with him in the fight was he couldn't handle Hopkins handspeed, Lateral movement, Defense and accurate punching.
