The one opportunity he might have to be in a situation where losing some weight and possibly getting healthier is almost inevitable, they take him out of there..
This is the flip-side of a story that was on the news over here about 6 months ago, where an inmate realised that the bars of his cell were slightly damaged on the side, and the gap between them in one spot was wider than the others. So he starved himself for months until he was down to like 96 pounds and then squeezed through and escaped..

there was another guy in an American prison who threatened to sue because he couldn't get enough to eat. something like that....
