Beatles or Stones?

The only reason why I bring this topic up is because two guys at work believe the rolling stone are better. They must be high. The stones are a great rock band but that's all they are. The Beatles are so much more. They change the world and music forever. I want to see what you cats think. Please set these guys straight.

The Stones were waaaaaay more versitlie as a band, The Beatles were great but only branched out near the end and then as individual acts.

I think the Beatles were more diverse just in that they wern't just driven from within the blues then out into hard rock.
The beatles could do a love song or a fun song or a rockin song or a heavy one with much different structures to the music than the stones do.

Take for instance Michelle,compared to Helter skelter or Revolution.
It isnt from the same music structure at all.
The stones are great and rule but they do stick more to their set ways, as do Ac/Dc for instance, but them even more so.

Is this even a real question? I sincerely doubt the veracity that anyone even postulating what your 'friends' have are doing so for any other reason than to get a rise out of you. They are busting your Stones. If the Stones never existed, the world would be exactly as it is today. The Beatles? It would be a world unrecognizable to us, in a negative way. If they claim to be serious, have them take an IQ test - they probably won't even break double figures.

i never understood the beatles at all but some how they damn near took over the world. even Rolling Stone has their Sgt Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band as the best album of all time. And i actually downloaded it to see wat it sounded like and i dont understand it.

Maybe i should listen to it some more.

I have a few Stones albums in my collection, but no Beatles. That's not likely to change.

The Stones are ridiculously overrated IMO.

And Lyle, unless you count the ability to play shitty disco as the pinnacle of diversity, the Beatles were waaaaay more versatile than the Stones.

The Beatles were the most popular pop band of all time, no doubt about it, although personally I find a lot of their stuff overrated, IMO.

Musically they were probably ahead of their time, George Martin had something to do with that. So many great melodies also. But lyrically? Browse through their song catolog and make note of how many of their songs were filled with incredibly trite, inane, downright silly lyrics. But I guess lots of people like that kind of stuff.

Yesterday is the most covered song in history. Frank Sinatra said Something was his favorite love song. Rolling stone magazine rated the 100 greatest albums of alltime. 4 of the top 10 were Beatles albums and 6 of the top 20. With over a half a billion albums sold world wide,that just about says it all.
