I still think we are largely seen by the world as peace keepers.

I think we have been mocked regarding it by our southern friends, not all, but some. And still will be. I was on the internet for the years after the invason of Iraq, and I remember the sentiments of the right. It was my first introduction to political opinion through this medium.

And if because we are in Afghanistan and fighting for what the agenda was then, to root out Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden...and are now seen as infidels for it by that part of the world which opposes it, let the chips fall where they may. I personally believe in the cause.

Point taken on Afghanistan. Other points where our rep has suffered among Arab Nations in recent years is our stance against groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, In canada their fund raising activities have been banned in recent years because we have sided with the US and Israel in labelling them terrorist organizations. I am not sure how people look at our involvement in the former Yugoslavia, where we sided with the US without UN authorization.
