De la Hoya -
The comeback against Quartey when all seemed lost and Ike looked set for a points victory back came ODLH with a stunning final round putting his opponent on the canvas for a 2nd time and almost forcing a late stoppage. Although the official scoring was specifically odd that night i had it for ike by 1pt going into the last and came out of it with a 113-112 ODLH win!!
The destruction of Ricardo Mayorga inside 6 pulsating rounds. Even for Mayorgas standards Oscar simply came to fight on the night and never gave up from the 1st bell right until the fight was eventually stopped. Its fairly rare Mayorga doesnt at least manage to hurt his opponent in some manner but against ODLH he simply could not get near him.
The brave performance against Mayweather. Many gave Oscar little or no chance on the night against the p4p king yet many came away in the end believing he may of even won the fight outright. Although he hardly put his neck on the line that night ala:quartey, whittaker etc he was technically sound throughout and deserved much more than the 112-116 giampa gave him!!!
Manny Pacquiao -
Battling from adversity. Lets face it not many of knew of manny pacquiao when he was twice KO`d in local fights back home and nor did many of us expect to ever here from him after those disasters. But unlike many potential world champions who allow dissapointing defeats to get the better of them manny went on to dominate the light divisions in the boxing world through having to make a name for himself the hard way and not by having an 0 on his record.
The Erik Morales trilogy. Never have i seen such courage from a fighter as manny showed particularly in the 2nd fight when he simply refused to allow that 1st fight defeat to bother him dominating the great Morales right from the very start up until the stunning 10th round KO which even the great Barrera never quite managed.
Destruction of Marco Antonio Barrera. The moment that started it all for manny. A complete unknown coming over to the states to fight a hall of famer many could of been forgiven for thinking pacquiao was in the US just too earn a decent payday and making MAB look good. But instead of proving the doubters wrong he absoloutely confounded all logic and tore apart Barrera before taking him out in the 11th round to cement his place in the big time.
