    Default Quick question.

Currency. $ names you have for yours?

In English telivision we hear "a monkey" Thats 500 pound yeah?
Whats all the others called have they all got nick names?

All I can think of out here is a ton for a hundred.
    A grand obviously 1000.
Fiddy, for fifty bucks is heard at times.
Red back for our red colored twenty bucks.

Do you call em bucks in the States?
    Or skins or what.
What about the states you got nick names for each one?

How about Canada? I heard you guys have a store over there called looneys.
Which is like our 2 dollar shops.
Looney or a loon out here means you have been affected by a full moon (Lunar) and your a nutcase .

We call it a loonie, because it has a loon on it. Seen below. It was our first change over from paper money for small currency, to coin. Then we came out with a 2 dollar version...and just decided to have it rhyme. It has a polar bear on it.

    A dime is also $10
As in I dropped a dime on that fight
It can also be a synonym for ratting someone out,"I dropped a dime on his ass when the feds came around" alluding to the fact that for many years a pay call cost 10 cents, the fact that I distinctly remember the ten cent pay call is not making me feel youthful,of course I also remember rotary phones, and dinosaurs
Dinero comes up alot because of the large Latin population in the states

In Canada you often hear a five dollar bill referred to as a fin.

Hey buddy, can you spot me a fin?

    $10 bill is often called a ten-spot.

A Fiddy is slang? I just thought it was typically bad Australian pronounciation.

    Yea I've hear that. And isn't a 10 a sawbuck?

eg "That pigeon...you just kill it? Is it fresh? I'll give you a sawbuck for it. "

yeah $10 is a sawbuck, $20 is a double sawbuck. But I don't recall ever hearing sawbuck used in a conversation, except one about currency slang.

i've never heard dinero, nor have i ever heard a dime being dropped on a fight.. maybe that was just way before my time..

probably because i've never seen anyone bet on a sporting event only for $10, i guess..

anyway, "bucks" is always used, but "dollars" is just as common.. I'd say bucks is more slang just because if you're at a restaurant or retail store they will say "that's 10 dollars and 50 cents" as opposed to "that's 10 bucks and 50 cents".. bucks is a more casual word i believe, and less professional..

besides the stuff that kingfrank said, the only other that comes to mind is a "fin" which is a $5..

and TM, I remember 25 cent phone calls, and i'm not saying that because i'm old or anything, it's more just sad that a call costs MORE than 25 cents now.. sort of ridiculous..
