Default A boxing expert hoping for a Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight in 2009

    Colonel praises Pacman!

By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing

Hall Of Fame broadcaster Colonel Bob Sheridan spoke to Fightnews about Manny Pacquiao and why he thinks the Filipino superstar is the best 140 pound fighter in the world, why Ricky Hatton will give Manny a better fight than Oscar did and why a Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto clash would be a great showdown.

"I feel Manny Pacquiao is the best of them all at 140 where he will test Ricky Hatton in the spring," said the Colonel. "He's too quick for Ricky, but Ricky will give him more problems than Oscar de la Hoya because Ricky is much closer to his prime and will definitely push Pacquiao more. At 147, Miguel Cotto is the class of the division. A Cotto-Pacquiao fight will be one for the ages and I hope that can be put together in 2009."

PAC's queue/line gets longer and longer every week...

    • Hatton
    • PBF
    • Dela Hoya (rematch)
    • Judah
    • Kendall Holt
    • Cotto
    • JMM
    • ...

I don't think he should fight at 147 ever again. 140 or below.

Kendall Holt, Zab Judah, ? is that a joke ? the only names he should fight are Floyd Mayweather, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez.

Those 2 guys were calling out PAC's name very loud and if PAC will opt for a tune-up fight (a not so big fight), those 2 were the leading candidates...

Having Zab or Kendall for tune-ups is not bad I think...

Just because they called him out means nothing, there small fish in a very big pond. And they don't belong in the ring with someone of Manny Pacquiao's class. And i don't think Manny Pacquiao needs any tune ups.

He has looked sensational in his last 2 fights, and i think he should build on that by fighting a big name opponent like Ricky Hatton. Forget tune ups he doesn't need one.

    Zab

    Thanks
Why not? Even PBF and Cotto fought Zab before... Zab deserves as an option if PAC wants a smaller fight, sort of a tune-up fight...

Well you know, negotiations of these big super mega fights can broke down anytime... You know, dealing with 2 superstars that won't back down on their demands... It's a big headache...

Zab and Holt are there in case no big fight for PAC can be sealed...

Considering how big some of those welter weights are, I don't want to see him fighting in the 147 either. I would like to see him against Hatton though at 140. But watching him beat up that biatch known as oscar de la hoya was pure joy.

Oh man it's such a bizarre experience this forum now. At the start of the year Manny Pacquaio was a superfeatherweight who was lucky to get a victory over Juan Manuel Marquez and whom had endured a series of criticisms about his training, or lack of and his seeming lack of commitment to the sport of boxing. He was chasing mayoral office in the Philippines, rolling with celebs and clubbing it up.

People were saying he was past his prime and not as good as he was.

Now at the end of the year people are saying he could fight Zab Judah, (3 WEIGHT CLASSES ABOVE SUPERFEATHER) as a TUNE UP (!!!) and they get shot down because it's a pointless fight and Zab should go for bigger name opponents like Miguel Cotto, a fight that most now seem to think Manny would win

They are already talking past his fight with Hatton, even though a year ago such a match was seen as a mismatch and an easy win for the Hitman.

Now it's already assumed Manny will beat Hatton at 140 and people want him to fight Floyd and Cotto at 147 to take a proper challenge.

Seriously when was the last time an established fighter grew in stature and reputation so much in a single year?
