Default What are the most truly global sports?

I reckon soccer and boxing are the only two truly global sports in that people from virtually every nation play football and fight.

Are there any others? Cricket, Rugby, swimming, tennis, horse racing, baseball, ice hockey etc, none of these are global sports I don't think.

    Are there any others?

Soccer must be the most global as it's literally played everywhere and is probably one of the major sports in virtually every nation.

Boxing must be near the top of most countries.

    Any others?

I would say football/soccer in terms of number of people playing in schools everyday and its huge levels of support at pro level.

Many people here have never really heard of cricket. Its a shame, I used to really love playing cricket.

Is pool a sport or just a game? There is a table at many a bar throughout the world.

Yeah Fide is the third largest sporting body in the world after Fifa and the Olympic Committe.

It's not a spectator sport though and only enjoyed by those who actually play so I guess it doesn't really count sadly, as I think it's the best game in the world

I think soccer and boxing are definitely the only really global ones...

What sports after that have the most coverage

Basketball maybe? That's probably the closest behind soccer.. Softball could be up there as well... Cricket has some pretty good coverage also but there are still a lot of places that havn't heard of it like Miles said..

Right you are my friend. An interesting statistic that I head some time back is that there are more books writtem about chess than all other games and sports combined. It's played in just about every country in the world. Check out all the countries that play in the chess olympiad.

yeah Diz, I thought about basketball too. It comes close.

What about golf? There are courses all over the place within many nations. Ive always thought of it as a bit of an elitist thing though. I cant stand golf anyway, so boring to watch.
