    Default more Southpaws

    is it me or does it seem like theres a lot more southpaws on the scene and not just manny. alot of the up'n'coming fighters seem to be southpaw:
    kirkland, victor ortiz and even lyk all da olympians from britain

    Yeah, because IMO the point system in the amateurs suits southpaws better, while most of these guys would benefit from having power in boths hands, in the amateurs it pays more to be elusive.

    There are more southpaw boxer these days. In the old days they were take naturally left handed fighters and turned them around to fight orthodox. They did this because many people refused to fight southpaws, so it was difficult for them to get fights.

    However this practice has all but ended, and southpaws have become more an more common.

    The first Southpaw heavyweight champion ever, was Michael Moorer in 1994.

    Lots of times a southpaw can be a more dangerous puncher when changed to orthodox, they hit really hard with their left hook, but they also have the right hand back so it gets more power by being in that position. We've also seen some right handers go southpaw like Winky Wright, Hagler, and Dawson.
