    Default Slipping to the inside

Should you ever slip to the inside of an opponents jab. I'm asking this because i sometimes find it easier to slip inside rather than outside, the problem is the puts my head in the path of a straight right (left for southpaw). Any advice on this one? thx, stef

Stepping in quickly with a fast hard jab after the slip can stop an opponent in their tracks before they can get a right off. To do it effectively after the slip, roll quickly pulling your right shoulder back, and then snap in a left jab violently while simultaneously pushing off of your back foot. You gotta keep it short and quick. The only thing on your opponent's mind is, "It just happened so fast!"

Otherwise, get ready for his right. Block it with your left glove, or check his right bicep with your palm before he can get the shot off.

Anyways here's some good posts by grey, different counters off the slips and more:

    ^^^ x2

Be fast. I almost KO'd a guy in sparring yesterday because he lingered after slipping inside.

It has to be second nature. If you have to think about what to do, you're going to get hit. That short left counter that I mentioned needs to be practiced on the pads with your trainer. Your opponent is only human, and when that left lands, he's going to freeze up for a second.

Get the movement down, use just enough motion to slip the jab and to get in closer. When you're inside, don't pause, step in and snap that left quickly with your body behind it. Punch through your opponent, don't just flick it out there. When your opponent is jolted backward for that brief moment, you should have some openings to take advantage of, just keep your punches nice and short and hit him where it counts.

Now if it the left doesn't land right, you might want to fall into his left (your right) and tie him up.
