Default If we had the original 8 weight classes right now....

Who would be the champions? Who would be the top 5-10 fighters in each division?

    Heavyweight:
    Light Heavyweight:
    Middleweight:
    Welterweight:
    Lightweight:
    Featherweight:
    Bantamweight:
    Flyweight:

Well guys, who do you think would be the best if we just had those weight classes

Heavyweight: The Klitschko's would still rule, I see no changes here but in the middle of the pack and in the contenders I think some cruiserweights (no not David Haye) could upend poorly conditioned heavyweights.

Light Heavyweight: You would have to think Dawson, Hopkins, Cloud, and maybe Huck would all be at the top. The super middleweights would add more depth to the division than it is right now.

Middleweight: Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams, I see little change here, MAYBE somebody like Sergio Martinez or James Kirkland could make big noise at 160.

Welterweight: Here's where it starts getting funny, guys at 140 (who would either have to drop 5 more pounds or deal with being bigger), who were World Class, I think would suffer greatly with this. Look at PBF, Marquez, Pacquiao, etc...all those guys using catch weights when we already have 50 million weight classes, think if they HAD to fight guys who were 147 but were maybe 160 on fight night...I think it would be very difficult for those guys.

The rest of these lighter divisions would also feel the effect of no catch weights and no Junior or Super divisions.
    Lightweight: JMM, Pacquiao
Featherweight: Juan Manuel Lopez, Yuri Gamboa
    Bantamweight: Agbeko, Montiel
Flyweight: Maybe Calderon would be able to put on pounds and dominate

    Heavyweight

I think the Klitschkos would still rule, Cruiserweight is not really any stronger a division, although I think the likes of Haye & Adamek could & would do some damage.

    Light-Heavyweight

Would be a pretty damn good division, I see Kessler & Dawson dominating, Hopkins would oversee it all like he does now.

    Middleweight

This would be as it is now, with Williams & Pavlik dominating, with maybe Martinez or Dzinziruk threatening as well.

    Welterweight

I see the top Welters dominating here. I think Mayweather could hold the top, as he's dealt with much bigger opponents already, with Cotto & Mosley also strong possibilities. I wouldn't be surprised if Pacquiao could also do alright here, he's got the talent to beat many of the guys at Welter. I see many of the other Light-Welters struggling badly though. This would definitely be the best division.

    Lightweight

I see Marquez dominating here like he already does, with Soto perhaps being a credible threat at the top along with Valero. This normally seems the easiest division to bridge so I can't see there being much change.

    Featherweight

I think this would be dominated by the guys from Super-Bantam like Caballero & Juanma. I think the quality of fighters there is just that bit better than at 126.

    Bantamweight

Hasegawa would dominate this division like he already does. Montiel might be a threat, but I see the Super-Flyweight guys struggling against the Bantams. But yeah I think Hasegawa would absolutely dominate this, especially with a few more Asian options for his fights.

    Flyweight

Initially I would have thought Calderon might struggle against the proper Flyweights like Naito, but no one in that division now is really a huge hitter, so with his defensive skills he might just be able to run things there as he has at Light-Flyweight.

    Good thread.

Dont have time right now to give it my 100% but one thing for sure the divisions would hve a LOT more quality fighters in and getting in the top 10 would be much tougher.

When those weight classes were in play, wasn't it the same day weigh-ins?

Heavy - Pretty much the same picture, Klitschos, Haye as well
Light heavy - Gotta say Dawson, Hopkins of course, and throw in Kessler, maybe Froch.
Middle - Abraham drops back down, Pavlik, Williams
Welter - probably would be best division, Cotto, Mayweather, Mosley, Pacquiao.

I am so confused. Hopkins beat Tarver at LHW. That's it. 1 LHW opponent 1 win. Now he's the "overseer of the division"?

    HW:Both Klits
    LHW: Chad, G Johnson, Cloud
    MW: Pavlik, Kirkland
    WW: P. Williams, Mosley
    LW: JMM, Pac
    FW: John, Juarez
    BW: , Donaire, Hasegawa
    FlyW: Viloria, Darchinyan
"Floyd needs to inject Xylocaine into his balls to gain the courage to fight Pacquiao."

    - and I quote from some random guy on the internet

I guess the reason would be that tarver was the champ(ring mag) at LH so when Hopkins beat him that made him the man at LH.

Also Hopkins win over Pavlik might have somthing to do with it evn though it was not at LH.

Because he hates both Floyd & Hopkins with a passion. I get the impression they might have double-teamed a close female relation of his
