I'm a big fan of Bad Boy Bill he is a great house DJ from Chicago, you should look him up. I haven't heard to much of his newer stuff but man his older stuff is second to none man.

Funny, I just got invited to a new school "rave" with him headlining, I believe Donald Glaude is also spinning. I haven't been to one in many, many years ever since 10 pm became "late" to me. Not sure it's worth the $30 to get my raggedy ass out there either.

I was always more into heavy Acid, I really like the Stay up Forever label and Chris Liberator (London) was my favorite DJ.

Wadeb you're in FL are breaks still big out there? I saw Icey a few times and Hardware was pretty slick as well.

Out here in arizona mash-ups of 80s punk and metal have become really popular again, not really into it myself, but people love covers.

More recently I've been listening to some D'n'B

The dance scene overall out here is much smaller than it used to be thanks to a super strict police force Joe Arpaio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But Arizona overall is great we get talent from all over the world, every dance style imaginable.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Yeah UK Funky is kinda hard to get away from if your into dance music. Crazy cousins pretty much personify UK Funky, which isn't quite a good thing cause all the good tracks sound identical! It's a young scene that needs to grow.

Its funny Wadeb_21 mentioned Chicago House, the reason i posted here was because recently i went on a 8 hour Youtube Binge looking for old Rave/Acid/ Techno/ Hardcore tunes from the late 80's early 90's and i came across one tune i remembered

    YouTube - Neal Howard - The Gathering(Club Mix) 1988

I always associated it with Acid but turns out this and a load of other tunes were of the Chicago House genre... Good Music!

I wondered if anyone here knew if this scene was still alive, or if there were some subsequent spin off/ sub genres that had emerged along the years?

It's wired, i never really though of the U.S as having a house scene

    Ignorance

You should totally check him out if you have the opportunity bro he is really really good. Hes really one of the pioneers of house music coming out of Chicago.

As far a breaks I personally can't say I know to much about it down here in FL.

Dance/House/Techno/Trance is huge still down in Miami especially South Beach. Every year there is the winter music conference and the Ultra festival where all the top DJs usually come out I'm talking Okenfold, Bad boy bill, Armin Van Bueran, Sasha, Tiesto. the music conference is like 3 or 4 days in south beach of nothing but sick music. I personally haven't had the chance to go but have had tons of friends that have and they talk so highly about it. I would love to check it out but I'm getting older now its not really my scene as much as it once was.

Oh another good house I just remembered from Chicago is Derrik Carter check him out hes another really good one hes more underground per say out of Chicago but still good.

It's typical of 'urban' UK music, they all go through fads of what everyone listens to. It used to be 2-step which actually went mainstream, then Dubstep, then Grime, which was a great scene until every little twat from Somerset started putting videos out on Channel U bastardizing what the music was about. Bassline had a brief spell last summer, I heard its still big up north & now it's UK Funky. It will die out long before it grows. Only Dubstep & Grime have really survived their respective fad.

Still I'll put up some of the best Funky tunes recently just because

I don't mind Dubstep/ Grime... I was brought up on the Dub sound as a kid so Dubstep is like second nature to me but then again, this manifestation of Dub aint all that... However, i there is one tune all cockneys must like!

This is BIG in my dj sets at present over here in Malta...pretty minimal and hypnotic when played to a bunch of space cadets at 4am.

Dropped it last week as it goes.
