Default Whos the real King of Rock n Roll?

Can only think of two all time greats Elvis and Chuck.

    Who is it for you?

    Anyone else worth a mention?

Carl Perkins maybe comes to mind as a must be listed ,but thats writing genius as well.

    For me its Chuck Berry.

    Elvis all day every day

there is only one King of Rock and Roll

Hes like Muhammad Ali you can argue there are a number of better boxers but there is only one Greatest

Its about the impact he had and still has

The real and only one is Jerry Lee Lewis, he was the one who did influence it the most at its time, even more than Elvis till he admitted a sexual relation with a minor, from there his reputation spiraled down and the time made sure to bury him as deep as possible. The man might have been a bit wacko, but if we talk pure rock n roll, he's the king.

It's a no brainer, Elvis is THE KING, it's like people trying to say Michael Jackson danced better than James Brown...NO FREAKING WAY. And as an entertainer the ONLY one person that could rival Elvis is James Brown.

I just squared this thread up.

The blood line of Rock n Roll traces back to Chuck hence he's the King

Yeah, Little Richard for me too.

Out of the two in the poll I would say Elvis was the more iconic, but Chuck Berry actually wrote the tunes. Both were very important in laying down the framework of what was to come later, so I can't really choose between them.

I don't see how anyone calls Elvis the king of anything. That's like a women's basketball team winning the championship and calling them the rulers of basketball. Elvis was a rip-off of every great black performer who came before him because people thought white people wouldn't accept them. If he was so great he would have recorded songs he actually wrote instead of re-recording other people's. James Brown, Chuck Berry, Screamin' Jay Hawkins were all better.

Of course people who know their rock history would know this. A better analogy would be like Justin Timberlake, people today are so amazed what he did, but it's been done before. Michael Jackson did all that back in the day, same thing with James Brown before him, and on and on.

Would anyone here call Justin Timberlake the king of RnB?

....excuse me THE King is THE King because he could do it all. Sure because he was white he got on TV and got more radio play but ELVIS helped create Rock'n'Roll by merging R & B, up tempo Country, and Rockabilly. Also he's The King because of the following....

Elvis staged the first concert broadcast globally via satellite, 'Aloha From Hawaii', seen by approximately 1.5 billion viewers

He had over 149 songs make it onto Billboard's Hot 100, 114 were top 40, 40 were top 10, and 18 went #1. But that's JUST pop not including Country, Gospel, or R&B

Those 18 #1's spent 80 weeks at that spot

He also had 90 charted albums and 10 of those reached number 1

Elvis had over 150 albums/records go Gold, Platinum, or Multi-Platinum

People would pack stadiums to hear Elvis sing and watch him perform he was like a cross between Sinatra and Ali...when you've got a packed house ready to hear some rock'n'roll and you can roll out
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAtxEwU8zIs
....and they cheer just as loud then I'm sorry you're just fucking special

At some point in time it's not about black or white or what kinds of breaks he caught it's about being a very special performer.

There's not a song the guy couldn't do...he didn't need any fucking auto-tune I can tell you that.

But yeah all those other guys you mention were good but Elvis is THE KING for a reason

Elvis create rock n roll? hhaahahahahahahaha

Elvis was the precursor to Eminem, The Beastie Boys,Justin Timberlake, etc. You know, guys that are popularly judged today as making their livings selling black music to white kids in the suburbs, why shield Elvis from the same critique?

Hell even legendary Ray Charles back in an old '94 article straight out said he's not the king of anything. He stole people's music and passed it off as his own including the genre that he supposedly started.

Musical genius Ray Charles says Elvis copied musical style of blacks; he's not 'The King.' | Jet | Find Articles at BNET

Does this song sound familiar? It for sure didn't come from Elvis

If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'." -- John Lennon
