Apparently not enough money was made out of the 1st fight, hence why there wasn't a second?

Reid landed some really good flush shots thats for sure. If you were making a highlight reel of good punches in the fight itd be mainly Reid BUT as we know boxing is scored round by round and Reid took too many rounds off where Calzaghe outworked him. Calzaghe won, no doubt it was closeish but I think you need to be a Calzaghe hater to actually score it against him if you scored it round by round (like you should and like a judge does). To me it was one of those fights that if you just watched it and didnt score it round by round youd think well Reid landed most of the good shots so I reckon he won, which I guess is what some people do.

Blast from the past, but yea I was one of many who thought Reid won that fight. I was at that fight and many in the arena thought Reid took the fight. If i remember rightly it was also the same night Oscar fought Ike Quartey.

I'm obviously 100% neutral in this comment , but I reckon that Calzaghe edged it too, outworking Reid but I agree that Reid landed the more big punches, but his workrate for the rest of the time didn't quite cut the mustard.

I think the SD was fairly generous to Reid, I had Calzaghe by two or three.

I remember thinking Joe had JUST won but i was half expecting the judges to go for Reid. There should have been a rematch but then again I think Calzaghe would have taken that a lot more comfortably.

Shame these 2 didn't come along 7 years earlier. That would have added to a great British scene!

Reid was offered the rematch but turned it down over money (what else).

He wanted £150,000, they offered £90,000. And that was that.

Think of how many sunbed sessions that would have been.

Robin Reid wasn't the greatest fighter of all time but he deserved more than £90,000

Remember scoring it 7-5 for calzaghe

from 1-12 reid was well in the fight and wouldnt of been the slightest bit surprised had he got a decision

Very good fighter but just didnt seem to have the defensive attributes to go with it. Reminded me a lot of marcus beyer
    one dangerous horrible bloke

You can't say that without knowing what he/they were worth. Remember Calzaghe wasn't a "star" on mega money back then either.

For certain though I bet Reid wasn't making anywhere near 90k for defending his WBF title in sports centres and on Audley Harrisons undercards - which he did after Calzaghe.

For me Calzaghe edged it by 2 rounds. Agreed, Reid landed the eye catching shots but he lost the rounds and you don't win a fight that way unless you're name is Carl Froch.

I liked Reid because of his attitude, he came round when their wasnt really depth of class, Nardiello wasnt great, he lost to Malinga which is embarrasing as every other decent fighter beat him, benn lost the rematch but was a shell.

Reid had a good chin but even that deserted him by the time he fought Lacy, although the first knockdown came while Reid was turned away from Lacy and talking to the ref, after the ref shouted stop!! Lacy should have been disqualified.

Reid managed to drop Ottke on his ass and yet again his workrate let him down, he was treated unfairly in that fight, getting warnings for bugger all but still could have been busier in the last third of the fight, he could have gone on to be the only man to beat Ottke, as out of all the contraversial fights Ottke had this was the worste

I was gutted he fought Froch and gave him a name on his record, he could have had a decent warm up fight with Glenn Catley a few months before but Glenn pulled out of the eliminator so Robin got a staright shot, he needed some rounds, he just had nothing in that fight, Froch isnt that big a puncher at all

Years ago, I thought Calzaghe lost more than Reid wan and mostly because I couldnt stand Calzaghe and how much of a spoilt, arrogant prick he sounded but even Calzaghe wan me round by how after all those years after starting to look stale he totally pissed all over Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and Jones, ok the last Two were past their best but their still having success after Joe beat em, so can be counted as good wins, dont forget, Joe wasnt young either or the fighter that could bang when he was younger.

Reid was a very likeable fighter and he was a decent scrapper but just didnt work hard enough in fights and I think he would have been up their amongst the best supermiddles but behind them, id have Calzaghe top then Eubank, Watson, Benn, Collins, Reid, thats all at their best

I thought Calzaghe took it by winning the rounds, had it 7-5, but I think that the fact Reid appeared to win his rounds more decisively led people to think he had won it. A rematch would have been good though
